I can see that. However, as far as regionals go the new pay rates will now make them competitive. The jump to 46 second year I believe will make them the highest paid FO's in the industry. Minus airlines like Endeavor with those retention bonuses. Also 40 first year is up there with only Republic as of now. The tuition reimbursement is also a good implementation IMHO.

It's a step in the right direction I would say, but my viewpoint is also external. The major thing to consider is QX can offer all NW bases. That is huge when recruiting pilots that have no desire to live or commute elsewhere in the country. OO can tell you that the NW is attainable, but as we are seeing now that movement can come to a stand still and you could be commuting from PDX or SEA to ORD for a lot longer than planned.

It is also hard to look at anything long term in the regional industry. At the rate things are picking up these rates may very well be competitive only in the short term. The big thing is they changed the actual rates, not just adding bonuses that can be taken away by management at anytime. I'm sure the senior people aren't happy with it since other than a 15k bonus there is no real improvements for them.

Ok thread drift...

Got any insight into why things are now at a standstill movement wise at OO?

I'm commuting to ORD now to sit on reserve and I'm wondering how long it will last.

Would anyone mind sending me a little more information on the new contract? I am trying to decide between QX and OO.
Thanks!

The truthful answer is nobody knows how long it will take to get back West. In 2015 SkyWest stacked ORD as well. Many were commuting to reserve for 6 months plus until things started to shift and allowed more peeps into the West.

Upgrades could help decrease the time you have to wait, but then again the CRJ base in SFO is winding down so more of them might transition over if they do not want to upgrade.

Also, the company might be stacking ORD again with the presumption that more flying is possibly on the horizon.

Best of luck.

Basically...

- FO pay goes up. 40/hour first year, second year is 46. It trickles up from there.
- 10k bonus to start if you're on the jet. 15k if you're on the Q400. The jet is tough for new hires to get right now.
- 15k signing bonus for existing pilots. I think new hires get 5k more later on? I didn't read the details thoroughly enough to know.
- Company can raise new hire bonus if they need to in the future.
- Company can provide tuition reimbursement if they need to in the future.

Did I miss anything, @SurferLucas ?

Go to Skywest, they have more diverse business and aren't getting whipsawed by Alaska Air Group. Everyone here who came from Horizon had nothing good to say about the way they were treated.

If our new TA passes Skywest will be a joke to go to if you live in the PNW pay wise, QOL wise and in general. Assuming it passes our upgrade times and pay will surpass Skywests and be up at the top again. The only thing you guys offer is flying for other carriers and low pay.

Really? Please explain. OO's upgrade just hit 10 months. IF your TA passes captains get nothing? I hope you guys get paid, but your anger is misguided. You must be hanging out with those senior captains too much.

I'm not at Skywest but I just hate to see the way Horizon has been treated by AAG. Why go there when a lot of other regionals offer so much more. Compass and Skywest have bases in the PNW too.

Really? A joke? Wow, listen to yourself. i know the thought of a significant pay bump is exciting you but don't get too carried away. We all provide cheap labor for the majors, none is better than the other.

I hope you guys get the pay raise, it's well deserved but at the same time that just raises the bar for airlines like SkyWest to raise that bar yet again. If that trend continues we all win, and should stop referring to each others airlines as a "joke". Just my .02

And Penair. We just got a nice raise and things are slowly improving.

I thought you couldn't wait to move on from there??! I hope it's getting better, even though I'm at a different place I still wish I could fly the Saab into OTH at times lol.

Oh really? I'm sure that at PDX or Seattle is 10 month upgrade..... the reason most want to fly for horizon or Skywest is because of the northwest bases but if you guys can't offer a quick upgrade in the northwest then most aren't willing to commute to ORD for that. Im obviously not speaking for everyone but I am just saying just because Skywest has 10 months isn't saying much, if I had to commute to Detroit for that then no thanks. I've got no beef with Skywest but when the Skywest cheerleaders come out and constantly rub how amazing you are in our faces it gets really annoying and old. I'm sorry I shouldnt say Skywest is a joke, I hope we all get significant raises to help us and the future generation of noobies and we can all move on to the majors. When your in a time of low morale all winter and unsure if you're going to lose your job and now finally there's a light at the end of the tunnel, you forget what it's like to be a human being to one another and it all starts coming back. @JDean3204 @Skåning sorry guys didn't mean to come off sounding like that.

I'm not sure who is rubbing it in your face from SkyWest but they are in serious need of a reality check if they really think that way. I always hear about SkyWest pilots taunting other places and it peeves me off, if I hear it first hand I will tell them they are no better, four stripes or three stripes I could care less. That mentality is what starts beef between companies, which is elementary recess mind set in my opinion.

Yes, you are correct NW base upgrades are no where near a 10 month upgrade or even near a 2 year upgrade at OO for that matter. For now anyways... We are losing a TON of pilots every month so it could be very dynamic, however most captains I've flown with since being at SW are lifers on the ERJ side...

Things are improving a lot. I still have my gripes. But I just got almost a 40 percent raise, and schedules are improving. We are also getting line bidding software. So things are looking up. Oh, and three more Captains below me.

I'm not really sure I believe you when you say you don't have a beef with OO considering your last couple posts. I'm based in the NW and have seen none of the face-rubbing that you speak of, and I would say something if I had. While I think the current TA you guys have before you is very lopsided towards FOs, I hope you guys can get a deal that benefits everyone. I have friends at Horizon. I hope we all get many more large raises.

Absolutely this^^

I also hear that ERJ guys always say they're mainline, jokes on us because we may fly mainline routes during slow times or new routes, but we make a third of what real mainline pilots make which makes us still a regional...

The only time I've heard "SkyWest mainline" it's been as a joke. Same old dig on the E Jet people have been making since it came out, and if people are taking it seriously they need to adjust their sense of humor (because IIRC, the CRJ-900 pays more).

As for face rubbing, I've pretty much never seen it, outside of maybe one or two lifers. Unless you're going by what's on the innerwebs, which is generally a crap storm of hyperbole anyway.
