I'm just going to leave this right here:

I thought the approved term was "SkyPest."

Its going to get ugly at QX.

Pilots with Horizon Air on Friday filed a complaint asking a court to take away a signing bonus and an education reimbursement program for new pilots.

The Alaska Air Group carrier began offering the new benefits without amending the collective bargaining agreement with the Teamsters Local 1224, the group representing Horizon’s -- and other carriers’ -- pilots, according to the complaint.

I doubt it will come to a strike, but I bet most of the captains would support it. The junior captains, like SurferLucas and myself, spent a long, LONG time in the right seat and empathize with the junior FO's trying to survive on first- or second-year pay. The senior captains may have gotten over that "junior FO" poverty feeling a few decades ago, but most of them detest management and would view a job action as a chance to voice their displeasure. It should also be noted that it takes a CREW to operate a flight. If the FO's are all out on strike, then the plane doesn't go anywhere.

I had an FO tell me I was an "old Captain" recently...:aghast:...I guess (?).

and yes, the senior guys are still bitter about the CRJ stuff and having to fly the Q400...there's a big ole grudge that's still being held around here. Like a bunch of old women

Just read the details on the new contract, providing it passes vote it sounds like QX may once again be the place to go! Good for you guys! :)

Why is that?

Well, read between the lines. Look at what they're actually offering and consider why, and think about it long-term. No, it's not concessionary... but there's a whole lot built on discretionary bonuses, and it doesn't really address many of the root issues that their pilot group has... in my completely outside opinion.

I can see that. However, as far as regionals go the new pay rates will now make them competitive. The jump to 46 second year I believe will make them the highest paid FO's in the industry. Minus airlines like Endeavor with those retention bonuses. Also 40 first year is up there with only Republic as of now. The tuition reimbursement is also a good implementation IMHO.

It's a step in the right direction I would say, but my viewpoint is also external. The major thing to consider is QX can offer all NW bases. That is huge when recruiting pilots that have no desire to live or commute elsewhere in the country. OO can tell you that the NW is attainable, but as we are seeing now that movement can come to a stand still and you could be commuting from PDX or SEA to ORD for a lot longer than planned.

It is also hard to look at anything long term in the regional industry. At the rate things are picking up these rates may very well be competitive only in the short term. The big thing is they changed the actual rates, not just adding bonuses that can be taken away by management at anytime. I'm sure the senior people aren't happy with it since other than a 15k bonus there is no real improvements for them.
