Horizon

No sim for me. And it wasn't because I was sent home either :)
I finished all three interviews then went back to the lobby. A few minutes later they gave me a conditional offer pending a background check and sim evaluation. I accepted then went back for f ingerprinting, pee test and company ID picture. I went back to the lobby and was later called back to the meeting room and was told that I did very well with all three interviews, plus my prior 121 time that I didn't have to do the sim eval. They gave me a stack of memory items, procedures and flows to have memorized before class and sent me home.

Three of us interviewed: a CFI from Phoenix, a KC-135 guy from Spokane and myself. The CFI was sent home after the last interview. The 135 guy was sent to the sim and later sent me a text that he passed.

For those of you who have interviews coming up, the whole process was very laid back. Everyone was very friendly in fact, almost everyone who walked through the lobby stopped to shake our hands.

Similar experience here,

I was run through the three interverws, I finished the third, and about 5-10 minutes later the CP asked me to come with him (which almost made me loose the lunch that hadn't even arrived yet... That would have been a neat trick). He brought me into his office where he said that everyone felt that I did very well in the various interviews and that they were electing to waive the sim evaluation. I was then given the study material and was told I was good to go and that my travel arrangements would be revised. Fortunately as I was walking out of the office I asked if they still wanted me to pee in a cup and get printed... Turns out that they had forgotten that step.

Everyone was very friendly and approachable. Under less "jeopardy-like" circumstances I would even say that it would be truly enjoyable.

+1 on training details. Not sure what aqp is... Kinda wondering what to expect, is it a tougher than typical, what to expect maybe?
@ElihuSmails, pm sent

Thank you all!!

I finished LOE on Monday (Tuesday at 0130 to be exact). Now the waiting game for IOE starts. The rumor is that IOE wait time is between 30-60 days. Any new hires (especially Seattle based) care to share your wait time so far? I'm ok with a sort of "paid vacation", if you will, but I'd rather not have to go back to the school house again if I don't have to. Till then I'll just keep proficient at home with flows, callouts and limitations.

I got a January class, finished the sim early February, and only had to sit for about two weeks before flying. I talked to a jumpseater a few days ago who said they'd waited four weeks already, and had been told it might be another bid before they started flying.

From what I can tell, basing doesn't matter for how long you wait to do IOE. I'm BOI based, and they just deadheaded me to wherever there happened to be a check airman.

I'm PDX, but I waited 5 weeks. Another in my class waited 2 months. Doesn't seem to matter much where you're based. I took my first 2 trips out of MFR, 1 out of PDX, then 1 out of GEG.

I knew they sent you to MFR the first time but not the second. Joe asked if I had any requests for IOE basing so I asked for OGG.

I just got a call from a classmate who finished LOE on Saturday who just got called for an IOE trip. Scheduling told him that they tried calling 2 other guys who have been waiting ahead of him who weren't in base when they were supposed to be. No idea what will happen to them (if that is even the case) but just a heads up.

Keep in mind, I was based in PDX. They just DH'd me around to pick up trips from wherever a Check Airman was available.

On another note, looks like I'll be able to hold a line next bid. Likely the last one available, but I'll take it if I can get it.

Haha... oops. I bet they get off with a stern warning.

One thing I am trying to understand with IOE scheduling, what are the availibility requirements? After completing the LOE are we required to be available within the standard reserve call out period all-day every-day? Or do we get advance notice of our IOE trips?

The way it was explained to me when I started IOE was that you're supposed to be available within the normal reserve call out period on the days you're on OE reserve, but the check airman shortage means that scheduling is pretty unlikely to call you with less than about 12 hrs notice.

That sounds familiar. When I went through, I was given a couple of "OE reserve" days. I would usually call in the morning to see if they were going to have anything for me. The odds of a trip popping up later if you've already been told that they don't have anything are slim/none. I still wouldn't travel super far from home, but I wouldn't be overly concerned about a 2-hour call out at that point.

In other (sad) Horizon news, we had a Captain pass away while on an overnight last night. Cause of death has not been determined. He was a good dude... I'd hung out with him a couple of times as we both were into motorcycles. He was 47.

Holy crap that sucks!

Gosh I'm sorry to hear that. 47 is way too young.

What is the trip mix like for line holders in SEA? How many days off does a reserve get in each bid period? Thanks.
It can vary quite a bit from bid to bid. This next bid looks good... I have a mix of 3 and 4-day trips. Some lines have CDO's, some have 2-days. A reserve line has 13 days off.

I'm one of the most junior line holders (there are only two below me) and my line is 17 days off with 5 credits over min guarantee. Even junior line holders can get some pretty good stuff.
