Honda jet crash KFFZ, 5 fatal

Is this the same faith that says the Tesla won't hit the playground full of children?
No. But it’s the same faith I have that FADECs do their job. Or the bolts that hold the tail on are going to do their job. There are many systems on an airplane I blindly rely on.

Yup. And the number one reason in the phenom was this wasn’t taught to pilots. Pilots would release pressure and the system would then reset, a delay would happen and rinse and repeat until you are in the grass/gravel/EMAS.
Or worse they would compound their problem by giving up and grabbing the parking brake handle, which immediately locked up the wheels and sent them on Toad’s Wild Ride as well.

I never had a problem with the Phenom’s performance. The owner did, but I did not. Wet runway, ice, snow etc, run the numbers and if the number is less than the runway available, land and apply full brakes and let the system do its job. Worked fine for me.

I don’t know what the issue is with Hondajets, but they either haven’t figured it out or the training is really bad. Every recurrent on the 100 they talked about the brakes and reinforced the idea that if you don’t respect the system and the numbers you’ll end up in the grass.

RIP to those lost.

News says they were headed to BYU for a basketball game. The lone survivor was onboard the aircraft; an 18-year-old son of the owners.

The aircraft was owned by a holding company jointly controlled by two other occupants killed in the crash.

The HondaJet has a flight recorder (but it might be a customer option?)

I hadn’t heard about a survivor. Itll be interesting to find out which seat they were in. Terrible loss for them though. I watched a documentary on “lone survivors” of mass casualty events. It was fascinating to hear the stories.

Travis Barker and DJ Am were the only two survivors in the 2008 North Carolina Lear 60 over run. (Blown tire past v1 and tried to stop)

They survived because they were ejected I think. Both had massive burns.

DJ Am later died in a cocktail drug overdose a year later. Travis Barker, an actual rockstar never flew in a plane again until 2021 when he flew in Kylee Kardashians private Global. He still hates flying and hasn’t been the same.

I was supposed to fly him in 2020 and he got as close to the FBO before turning around.

So yea, not ideal.

I flew him Aug 2022 LAX-GEG. Barker, Kourtney, a bunch of the kids (she had some Kanye kids with her), and their nanny. They were going to Coeur D’Alene.

I noted it in my log:

I heard a part of a news interview with Mr Christopher Schiess, formerly Capt Chris Schiess, USMC. He was the Naval Flight Officer RIO backseater of the USMC F-4B Phantom that had the midair collision with the Hughes Air West DC-9 in June 1971 and was the sole survivor, managing to barely eject post collision as both aircraft were heading to earth. Upon his parachute opening, he watched as both jets impacted earth, with 49 fatalities on the DC-9 and the pilot of the F-4B still in the Phantom. The effect of the incident were apparent.
