His Eminence Has Spoken!!

Oh, this has become a HUGE stink over here. Some of the pilots are upset because they think our MEC Chair is making too much money (ie more than they are), so the pitchforks and torches are out. Last MEC meeting, they decided to look into it, and from what I heard, if they went with some of the plans other ALPA MECs use, his pay would actually increase MORE. AFAIK, they're still looking into the flight loss pay issue.

Yes, most MECs pay their full time reps quite a bit, simply because of the difference in the amount of time that someone has to spend doing the work compared to flying the line. I haven't had a true day off, when I didn't have to spend most of the day doing union work, probably since the holidays. Big difference compared to the 16 days off I could hold if flying the line. So, there's usually a higher amount of hours per month for guys on full-time union leave. I get 92 hours per month, but I'm paid far less than most MECs pay for a full-time position. Our pay is just a carry-over from the NPA days. Most MECs pay the pay cap, if there is one in their contract, or about 110-115 hours.

Yes, you are correct. Those that were committee volunteers would just get their normal trips bought.

Yep. They'll attend meetings when they're pissed off.

They send a lot of emails though!

Exactly; usually half-baked or half-sauced with false or misunderstood information. Most of the meeting is spent helping them pull their heads out of their nether regions.

Yeah, it's a lot like that.......

Considering the amount of time that's involved in being part of an MEC, that's a small price to pay for the pilot group. Ask me how I know!?! Now, throw in the actual MEC Chair/ Vice-chair efforts....they absolutely deserve the 'over-guarantee' pay they receive (I personally don't get any 'extra' pay...but I certainly understand why those that do....do).

Don't be stupid!!! If you think you can do a better job than the people holding office currently......RUN FOR OFFICE YOURSELF!

Sorry, long night.....hhhmmmmm, make that long week. If I seem a bit terse, well there's probably a good reason.......

I haven't a clue how Dalpa does their FPL but, I really liked the way we did it at XJTALPA. Basically, when a pilot was on FPL their pay was an average of any three pilots that were in their seniority group. That way they were never paid more than a line pilot. However, they always worked more days than a line pilot.
Your company has awarded a lot of Flight Pay Loss hours to your MEC. The dues dollars you spend at DALPA do not go to much FPL. I must say that is a nice thing to have especially when you are looking for a few extra dollars to help other committees.

Pretty much how I see it. I've seen the hard work SE puts in over here. Ya know what, more power to him, 'cause I would NOT want that job even with the increase in pay. I get min days off now, and I'd see my days off decrease. I've considered trying to get in on the C3 over here, but that's mainly because I'm already sitting RR at the airport anyway. Might as well volunteer as a rep for meetings if I'm sitting around doing nothing....
