Hired & Moving to Phoenix!

Well, I flew out last week, interviewed, and got a call back the next day with a verbal offer from "The Sandcastle"! My paperwork should be overnighted to be sometime this week, and they want me to start rather soon. This means I have to get my rear back out there and find a place to live. I really like the Scottsdale area, but I'm really open to anything, so if anyone has any suggestions of nice apartments to live in that won't put too big of a hole in my pocket, I'm all ears! After living on the east coast all my life this will definitley be a big change, but I'm really excited about it.

Congrats. What kind of job did you take out here? Scottsdale (Snottsdale) has a higher cost of living than most areas in the valley.

It's an analyst position in corporate at the other bigger airline headquartered in Phoenix besides Mesa. I'm hoping to still keep flying on the side when I get out there.

ah, America West, I mean US Air or is it Hughes Air West????:)

I used to work for a little airline called Skywest back in the day, US Air now also.

My apologies. It's US Airways for those of you who don't know.

My girlfriend worked as an analyst there. Some loved it, some hated it to death. She was mainly sick of the poor salary and what it entailed (weekends frequently, 50+ hour weeks, etc.).

Welcome to the family...

Tempe is a good "first place" to live in PHX area. You're pretty centralized without being in the "worst side of town". Tempe borders Scottsdale to the south so you will have easy access to the nightlife of both towns. Not to mention the ASU hotties! :D (you're single right?)

Rental cost will vary widely, although there are some reasonable rates out there...try around Baseline Road in Tempe.

Good Luck

Some members on here might beg to differ. As they say Tempe is rife with high crime, vagrants, homeless, drug dealers, druggies etc. And they'd be right!

I love living out in Glendale right by the base, its quite and there isnt much around me. Ofcourse driving the the East valley can be a pain but i try to avoid the east side.

Peoria is nice too :) If you're working in that USAirways building near Tempe town lake (probably not the only possible place you could work haha) it's sorta far though. That or my boyfriend doesn't know how to navigate toward that side of town very well...

Tempe is fun if you don't get stabbed, raped, murdered, sold drugs, hassled or heckled by a homeless person or a bohemain. Or get caught in a drive by,get pulled over and arrested by a cop on a horse or get fired for not making enough outbound calls!

:)

Hahah, Matt is afraid of Tempe...Try Harlem, Overtown-Miami, Compton, or places like that...Tempe is a resort town compare to them. (and ive been to al those places---at night)

Ooooo bummmsss ;)

Hahaha...I used to live up off of Broad Street in center city Philly near Temple University before, so I'm used to all that! (except of course being fired for not making enough outbound calls) This is definitley the most stressful thing about this whole process. I can count the number of times I've been to Phoenix on one hand, so finding a good place to live is a challenge when you don't really know the area that well. I appreciate all your suggestions though!

Naaaaaw not afraid of Tempe. I'm just aware of what is happening there. Tempe is the party hot spot of greater Phoenix!

Well, what do you suggest there Max... I'm just trying to give some advice. By the way, I spent my first four years in the PHX area living in Tempe. It's not all bad and I'm sure there are worse places, like south Phoenix, to live.

Naw your advice was good. I have never had any problems with Tempe either but Hubba would definately say different. I'm very suburban so I'd have to say North Scottsdale or East Mesa. But that's "money" in those places. But hell everything is expensive here in the valley now. A few years ago houses in Arcadia were what $80k,now there starting at $300k min.
