Hilarious Lego Airline satire video

Eh, I can keep a white shirt completely pristine for an entire 5 day week. Full sweat mode for 4 of those days. (It was 108 on the ramp in Aruba the other day). One of those days is in the 120, no sweating at all because working APU. :) Anyone flying an ATR, flying out of SA, and/or every other operator in the Caribbean is doing the same. No reason to look like you just slid out of larger animals butthole, ever. Mountain Air wears bars, ties, and pristine uniforms down here as well. IFL doesn't wear ties, but they also wear/can keep a pristine white uniform with bars. :) The uniform is only one of MANY small things. THAT kind of small thing isn't hard to do, if it is, Jesus... I don't want you flying a cub. :)

Is "attention to detail", a basic requirement of every aviation job I can think of, less ridiculous than "sweating the small things"? It's the same thing. Don't act like it isn't.

Without the minor trolling and throwing titles around for lols, I'll just have to agree to disagree with the disagreements. We're clearly not seeing the same things in our respective positions. Perhaps it only applies to low time guys, or maybe my own company, or maybe just the two bases my company has in PR, but there is still a strong correlation that is present. It may not be absolute, but it is strong. The one thing I am actually serious about is this; until someone not minding the small things has a problem or causes my 97-100% on-time performance (the best in the company) to decline, I respectively disagree. Sorry... :)

Again, out of BQN, we use the passenger terminals. I mean, some, maybe most don't care what people think of them, but do you really feel good about yourself when the guys cleaning the toilets or the guy on the ramp in Aruba ALL day looks more professional than you do? Cool if you do I guess, but I wouldn't be surprised AT ALL when you have your first incident. Happens EVERY, SINGLE, TIME. Every single person I'm personally aware of that's had an incident at AMF looked like crap at work and/or was known to fly against the small things in the GOM/SOP. ALL of them.
I think you seem excessively self satisfied and just a little out of touch.

Self satisfied, for sure. Self indulged even. It is the best base and has been for quite some time... :)

Most of what I'm arguing about was put in place here by an ex-Air force captain btw. Who's philosophy of sweating the small things prevented us from losing the contract at this base. We had some HORRIBLE work ethic here when I arrived. Which is why I find @Hacker15e objections a little weird. That guy didn't recognize the politics of the position though...

Out of touch with reality? Perhaps. Out of touch with the operation, very much no.

UPS doesn't give a damn about how you look, they want the packages moved on time and cheaply. That's it.

I never and I mean never, miss a chance to fly in jeans, tshirt and hat. I've flown up to FL510 in that attire. I've shot approaches to mins and even dodged massive thunderstorms. I know cray cray. I've never had my decision making ability influenced by said attire. Ever. I'm "gasp" even the "Chief Pilot" of our small part 91 Lear 45 operation. Duuuuuude, "yes I even say dude as a SoCal kid", you might want to ask yourself why you're the number one base, is it because of you or in spite of you? If a polo is an approved uniform, it should be allowed. That's what I wear to work, and the boss of our multi billion dollar corporation has no problem with it. It should also be noted; that in my four years in the Air Force, eight years at the Sheriff's Dept. and two at XJT, I was never out of uniform and took pride in wearing what was authorized. And I turn 40 tomorrow if that matters.

OK, I was trolling the ever living hell out of this thread before. Hell, maybe I will again, because it seems to be heading that way. I'm finding it hilarious how sloppy some guys must be that work for what I thought were OK, if not, high ranking carriers...

Part 91 over to SJU, I'm only going to see line service/dispatch, I'd fly naked! WEEEEE! It is hot afterall... :) Revenue, FedEx, out of BQN. The manager of feeder operations hates our polo, we sit in passenger terminals during our break, no I'm not inclined to allow the polo or non-pristine white shirts when the other feeders down here are also wearing the bars AND a tie, cleanly. That is the expectation by the customer at that point. I expect that from everyone in the base. It's a small thing. It's hot for maybe 30 minutes (not really with a cut-above shirt). Take the tie off when not in view of FedEx. Cool. Yes, there has been a positive correlation between incidents at AMF and the expectations set by the ACPs. The ACPs make or break the base here. The second you let the small things go, the big things are harder to fix if they become an issue. That's been well documented by ASAPs, incident reports, and base performance.

Hey, I'd love to get WAY specific with a particuar ASAP about how a guy didn't follow the small things out of the SOP/GOM/requests by their ACP (or lack thereof), but I'm not allowed. I mentioned before, the majority here now are low time, sub 3k hours. This philosophy may only apply to them, but I doubt it.

Objectively speaking, all I have is numbers to go off of. We have always minded the small things in BQN and it is/has been the best performing base in the entire company at the largest 135 freight company in the country for the past 2 years. My ex-military predecessor started it, I'm finishing it with politics in mind. The pilots that have had problems didn't have great attention to detail. I can probably give you this, the next best base is running at 94% reliability. Nope, it's not "just freight". Not when the customer demands more. FedEx has a vested interest in keeping their "carriers" (they own the planes), in business. When the "lowly" contract carrier performs and looks better, it gets noticed.

Perhaps I'm arguing more from a manager's perspective (you made me throw that out there again!!!! :) ), but I've found very little difference between that position and a PIC position.

Here's some motivation for the other freight hounds in the thread. Mind the small things, or UPS will get pissed and *Amflight* you. *cough*ABQ*cough*

On the passenger side, if you fly naked, you're going to end up on "That List" and I don't mean the "No Fly List" either.

What if I wear a uniform shirt, tie, hat, yet no pants? Like an airline bottomless party. The twist is, I bake a cake for the recruiters... tier 1??

Did I get all the latest ones in?

As an anecdote, I am thinking this is the time I should talk about how AmFlight in PDX left a wedding dress in the wing-locker of a navajo for months (maybe even...years?). Those guys sure were sharply dressed though, so much so that UPS let it slide, amirite ?

Out of PDX? They were probably in pajamas under their snow pants and Columbia coats! I feel like they did that guy a favor though! :) The ABQ company lost their flying due to performance, not bidding, for what it's worth.

Thanks for being a good sport, serious or not. I was trolling again... mostly. :) I think you might know what I'm getting at, maybe you don't, but that's ok I suppose. As I mentioned before, perhaps we're seeing different things from our respective positions.

I mean, uh, dammit!

@Boris Badenov, his head might explode, but I flew at Flight Express in nice jeans and a tight fitting, usually purple, blue, red, or pink (it's salmon, dammit) button down or polo. Tucked in even! Wool peacoat in the winter time. Too fabulous! Followed their SOP for stage cooling with the mixture. No problems. The guys that dressed HORRIFICALLY in OMA or CPS because "LOL, JUST FREIGHT, FUGGIT LOL", cracked heads all the time. Again, an anecdote most likely, but I find it strange that two different companies have the same correlation... :)

Then you go to Alaska where no one is dressed nicely, and yet there are professional pilots out there.
