Hilarious Lego Airline satire video

I have never once been excited inside a 172. It's the Chevy Cavalier of airplanes. It'll get you there, but it's extremely meh in every way.
I've had fun every flight in a 172. Perspective I guess. You're still flying an airplane, in the sky. The 180HP ones can climb pretty quick when you're light on a cold night.

That's too bad, because excitement in an aircraft ultimately isn't about what kind of iron you are in and what its performance capabilities are.

I've flown some amazing high performance aircraft and done some amazing high performance flying over the years in those airplanes, and I still manage to get excited when I strap on a 152 or 172, either for pleasure or business (e.g. Instruction). Is it the same intensity level as flying into the maelstrom of AAA and SAM fire on the firsts night of the war, or at 680 knots on the deck out over Nevada, or flying formation with a WWII bomber in a WWII fighter, or 1v1 dogfights, etc, etc...no, of course not. But just because I had awesome sex with one amazing woman this one time doesn't mean that all of the other sex I've had before and after is relegated to being routine and boring.

Every aircraft will at one point be "just an airplane" if you climb in it regularly (and especially if you do so for a job). Unfortunately, those moments you take for granted are the ones you have to savor the most.

Oh, ya that Porsche is fast huh? Well I just bought this 2 wheeled thing off a dumb 19 year old for 2 grand and it says that Porsche is mind numbing slow.
Bah, when I move back to the states and get one of these, and let you drive it...

In my "limited" experience in the 121 world I always thought the idiom was used in this manner as well. Perhaps we're all in agreement over the meaning, with some of us simply disliking the idiom.

Eh. My 335i burns through more gas than my Bonanza. Harder to slow down as well. They really should require type rating rides for these things. I stomp the gas, and I'm suddenly two time zones away.
