Hey, Doug...

[ QUOTE ]

Here's a serious question for Doug, do ya miss the MD-90 from when you were based at DFW

[/ QUOTE ]

I miss the MD-90 and my croanies back in DFW immensely.

ATL's a whole different vibe entirely.

lol I don't even have my PPL yet and here is the average conversation with someone who just finds out...

"What do you want to do when you get older?"

"Umm, probably a pilot"

"Oh wow, thats cool, you meen the big jets we fly on?"

Inside feeling-->"Well...no ****" - Full Metal Jacket
"Those would be the ones"

"Wow your gonna be rich"

"Not quite"

"Why not?"

"Don't worry about it"

"No really, why?"

"Well have you ever thought about how much money it takes to get all the licenses in order to fly one?"

"How many are there?"

"A lot"

Etc. Etc. Etc.

I feel your pain everyone.

Seriously. The average conversation goes like this one for me:

"So what are you majoring in?"

"Philosophy"

"...what the heck are you going to do with that?"

"I'm a pilot, that's what I'm hoping to do. The philosophy is a good pre-law in case I don't make it."

"...you mean you're not in the college of aviation?"

"No, I left it my freshman year."

"Why? I thought it was good."

"It is, it's just not for me."

"But you can't fly airplanes without a degree in aviation can you?"

"Actually, a large amount of pilots don't have aviation degrees."

*The look of confusion starts here, then it's like a frigging lightbulb goes off in their head and they get this big smile on their face*

"....so I have a friend who's second Uncle twice removed fly's for Northwest. He used to fly little planes, and then decided to just start flying with Northwest for something to do. He does not work more than 2 days a year and makes $160,000 a year. Some gig eh?"

"That's not exactly how it works."

*now they're angry*

"Yes it is."

"I have a class to get to."

So doug i have seen many many MD-88/90 come into SLC during my CFI days. Can you tell me exactly everytime it was you in there between Feb 2002 and Feb 2004? it would just be super cool to know. oh ya, I decided to tell employers I dont have a 4 year degree to prove everyone wrong that you need one, will this hurt my chances of flying a 777 for $300,000/year?

Only $300,000 don't be lowering the bar for the rest of us.

There's another Doug who looks a lot like me at Delta, so you could just blame it on him!

He's in his mid-40's though.

Not that there's anything wrong with that...

You do know I was joking ... right?

[/ QUOTE ]

You were? I coulda swore I heard you the other day...

Well there is one way to hear Doug..... well maybe......
PHX and JFK towers are both available on line and I think ATL as well.
So if Doug happened to mention that on xx day he's flying DAL xxxx into JFK or ATL, then we'd hear him on the ATC freq.
Just a thought!!!!

I get stopped at least once a day while I'm on the road so I'm getting used to it!

Usually, if I call Kristie in between flights, it's almost guaranteed that someone will walk up.

and about 5' 10" tall.....

Doug I know how you feel. Here in Atl Delta is one of the biggest employers so everyone in Atlanta knows someone. I hate when they say "I have a friend who works there you might know him". I always ask where they work GO, TOC, or Ramp. And the response is either I dont know or they work with airplanes. Gees that narrows it down to about 20000 people. With those odds I probably know them HAHA.

Or they want buddy passes or want to know what a ticket to BFE cost.
