Hello and Help!

Oh sure, "3" weeks out of the month I get plenty of support. Speaking of support, I am in my office surfing on the web so that my wife can study for her exams, it is quiet & plenty of space. Just where I want to be on a day off, my office!

Oh well!

Go home and tell her how much you love her tonight and that you feel lucky to have her. And mean it too.

If you support her 100% all the time regardless of if it's being reciprocated then she'll feel like an ass if she doesn't return the effort.

Hi, Michelle:

I registered as a new user this afternoon so I could respond to your post, as you and your husband are in about the same position that my husband and I were a year ago. We live in Colorado, and due to weather and the various FBO issues your husband is also experiencing it was just taking too long for him to get his training done. So we, too, found ourselves in the position for searching for a more structured and consistent training program.

Sounds like you're checking out all the major FL flight schools, which is good. We did, too, before my husband Troy left home for flight school. (Unfortunately, my job doesn't "travel" well, and we need my steady and good income to keep us going!) Our route turned out to be a bit "bumpy," since Troy chose Airline Training Academy in Orlando and was there about 3 weeks before the owners shut the doors and ran off with everyone's money ($45k for us).

Aaaanyway, Troy is now at FlightSafety, is very happy there and would definitely recommend it. (I'm here because my husband, like yours, is not a real message board kind of guy

) When you visit the schools, be very skeptical of promises they may make about guaranteed interviews, relationships they supposedly have with airlines (which is how Troy was "wowed" by ATA), and by all means do not give them your money in advance.

Also, to the extent you are able, consider the school's financial condition. A lot of them are privately held corporations that could shut down with no notice at all (like ATA). One of the reasons why we chose FlightSafety is because it's a public corporation, owned by Berkshire Hathaway (CEO Warren Buffet). They're not going to disappear without warning. Once bitten, twice shy!

Troy's just about finished at FlightSafety with his CME, and is next going to Eagle Jet. (For those who want to flame me, don't bother -- I've already read all your opinions about PFT.) For us, FlightSafety was definitely the right choice, even if Troy took kind of a roundabout way to get there. Their aircraft and instructors are top-notch and Troy has never missed a flight because of a maintenance problem. It's pricey, but if you have the money I think it's money well spent.

Good luck to you and your husband!!

Kathleen

I think TheWife is my new favorite member!! With all this ladies advise from the horses mouth we will no longer have the sexually fustrated easily irrated members (the overworked undersexed airline/student pilots) that bitch and moan about everything!!

I look forward to the day I do not need my Jetcareers Sabre 6,000,000 because everyone is happy and behaving themselves!!

Aww, I am blushing.

Kathleen, thank you for sharing your story! Great info! Why is it that our husbands don't like message boards? If it weren't for my mommy board I'd be a crazy lunatic.

Hell, I can't get my wife to look at these boards even though I know it would be informative for her. She is probably too busy checking out porn..Just Kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honey if you read this I really was just kidding haha..hehe. nevermind...yes dear!

Hey get her to go to the fcapa.org for the families! I want more wives to talk to. You men are frankly a little dull. Lol. JK.

A hoy hoy,

Enjoying this inferno we call home? Me = No!

From reading your posts I do not think finishing your training in Salt Lake is a good idea. There are 5 schools on-field in SLC. Two are collegiate programs, one is WAY overpriced, and two are not what you guys are looking for.

I have been working on field in SLC for almost 5 years which has enabled me to form close friendships with people "in all the right places". These should come in very handy when I finish college [this winter!!]. Working your way into the area fresh may take some time. Since Utah isn't what you would call a veritable aviation mecca leaving the state might be the most pain-free and quickest path for you guys.

Good luck!

Well, again, thanks everyone for your great insights, as well as for the warm welcome to jetcareers. As you can see, like I said in my first post, my wife truly is amazing. I think after reading all of your posts, as well as scores of others, (particularly in the training section) I believe I am leaning towards one of the FL "big schools) for my ratings, and hopefully and instructor posistion. If that position ends up taking way to long or if it doesn't present itself at all, that's when I will probably go do the ameriflight thing. I guess it's kind of a "best of both worlds" type thing. Instruct as well as get the first officer experience. This is my gameplan based on what I know so far and is definitley subject to change, seeing as I still haven't done the tours yet. I appreciate all the help so far, and welcome any more insights based on my current game plan (pros vs. cons, percieved mistakes).

He is passionate about flying and it's what he wants most in life next to me. I knew when I met him that he would be gone a lot, I knew when I married, I knew when we had a son. When your marriage is on a solid foundation you have a good chance at surving with a spouse gone a lot. I have heard from just as many peoplpe that have families and the woves say it's a great lifestyle etc. as I have heard from people who think it's not.

Our son has never been anything less then our first priority, but that does not interferre with my husband being able to do what he dreams. Who wants a 9-5 M-F desk job in a dark cubicle where you sit in front of a computer screen all day? We are going for it, and no comments that any one makes will changes our minds about this being his career, and not just a hobby.

oh man - I'm soo disappointed that i came into this late....

but anyways - you tell him missy!!!!

that's me - it's boring.. it pays the bills, but i'd much rather be flying... traveling the skies to cities unknown - following my husband while he's in the cockpit... that's where i'd rather be!!
