Hell froze over at Eagle

Many said they would never come. Although they still aren't here....an official announcement was made today:

22 new CRJs for Eagle...delivery starts June 2010
All new CRJs will have a First Class cabin....existing will be retrofitted
Most of the CRJ's will be ORD based
CHQ will begin flying out of ORD as well

Hopefully an announcement will soon be posted about bringing back furloughs

We've needed some good news. I hope you are correct about the recall of furloughs in short order. The company has stated that they'd recall in January. It'd help morale if the timetable was accurate.

Just curious (not trying to incite anything or be rude, seriously):

Does this correspond with cuts at mainline?

Yup. More outsourcing of mainline flying. Sick isn't it? When will it stop?:banghead:

What the f!@#, over! Does this say that American is going to resource out regional flying with CHQ while we have furloughs on the street and 8 year FO's?

Hmm did you read the full announcement? No cuts at mainline. Mainline AA is taking over routes previously done by Eagle (DFW-PIT, DFW-ORF), filling in DFW-LIT (previously all Eagle), while at the same time former AA routes that were too thin are being done by Eagle/CHQ. Moving flying around....

I love uniformed responses...

File the grievance so we can win it in 2015. I don't like the idea of having CHQ in ORD, mixing it up with Eagle pilots. The current arrangement was at least using the "out of sight, out of mind" philosophy. Now it will be in our face that AMR is outsourcing while we have furloughs on the street.

I know I don't sound happy with the announcement... I really am. It's just that I have learned to read the small print and never take anything from management at face value. Smoke and mirrors will always fool the children.

When the mainline pilots everywhere grow a pair and stop letting scope go for things like BS no furlough clauses and the like. That is the ONLY way this will stop.

If the union at Eagle tries to take the high road and says "no, we don't want to take mainline flying" Mesa, Pinnacle, or Colgan will have 22 new RJs and will be flying them for peanuts.

Again, mainline pilots are the only ones who can stop it.

I would only guess CHQ will be in ORD long enough for the contract to expire. They stated in the press release this is only because they are REDUCING STL/RDU. And also it says a reduction of STL/RDU while all other bases are increased. Sounds like a win win for the American guys..... And maybe Eagle as well because we all known a gain of CRJ700 does not mean there might not be a loss of say ATR, E134/145 coming up as they replace 50 seat flying with 70 seat flying.

Just read some of the announcement. Looks like theres some mainline flights being added too. Jeeze man, sorry for my uninformed response. I really didn't mean to sound so negative. Maybe they can get some furloughed guys back. Anytime you can get guys back from the streets its a positive. But the more you add 70+ seaters into the system, the more this industry goes downhill.

just curious:

if they do recall furloughs....who else is/was in the hiring pool and what happens to that...just wondering but I'M NOT EXPECTING anything b/c it was 1.5 years ago that that happened

I was just wondering if the pool is still around, i assume it isn't but who knows

I'm on the fence about the announcement since they added that "most of the DFW CRJ's will be moved to ORD starting next Spring."

That doesn't bode well for me. That means (a) I'll have to commute to ORD (can't afford it) or, (b) I'll have to displace over to the EMB....which wouldn't be an entirely bad thing for me except the two months in the school house.

However, on the bigger picture: Hopefully, this means the furloughees will be recalled (although I heard a rumor yesterday that Eagle is considering more furloughs).

There are also other rumors about the "flow-through" guys finally starting to flow through to AA with the seniority they have accumulated (8-10 years) in the near future.

Like anything at Eagle, I'll believe it when I see it.

My main concern is that the 71 currently on furlough are recalled ASAP.

Why don't you ask eagle?
