Hell froze over at Eagle

The fact is Eagle ALPA has to dig in and fight this for all they're worth. Ask the furloughed guys at ExpressJet, Chautauqua made the same move on them a few years back and now over 300 XJT guys are on the streets...

You do realize that CHQ contract was inherited when AMR bought TWA, right?

In that, AMR made CHQ buy 15 jets that didn't match CHQ's fleet, but were fitted out to Eagle specs so AMR could absorb the airplanes. Those 15 jets were to replace the 15 operated for TWA.

I'm absolutely amazed that CHQ is still flying for AMR due to all the difficulties of the initial switch over. There was never a "love fest" between the suits in DFW and IND - witnessed first hand.

That CHQ upper management must write a good contract.

The history of where the CHQ deal originated is irrelevant, this is an issue of contractual violation. Our labor contract specifically states that the company is obligated to "aggressively seek flying opportunities... including but not limited to, bidding on opportunities to provide additional feed to American Airlines".

This is the perfect opportunity for the company to go aggressively seeking, and yet they're doing absolutely nothing to stop CHQ from taking what could be ours had they exerted the effort. All this while we still have people on the streets.

Your post seemed to imply that the deal is like the CAL-CHQ deal. However, it is not. CAL was looking to diversify feed. AMR inherited CHQ.

It seems like AMR is violating your contract not CHQ. I'm sure Bedford would like a cash payout from AMR and tell them to take the jets.

I hope you guys can enforce the contract, but your comparison to XJET was false.

Precisely. Bedford loathes AMR and vice versa, but neither wants to end the contract because of the $$$ involved in doing so. From what I understand, he's just counting the hours until our contract with AMR ends in 2012.

Kinda what I thought. I was under the impression BB wanted out of the 50 seat market ASAP.

I'd be willing to bet that if AMR had their way, CHQ would be around till at least 2013 when contract negs start at Eagle. Just standard practice with AMR, they've gotta keep the pressure on somehow for bargaining...

Nobody's stealing jobs from Eagle. Management agrees to things that they just can't do sometimes. They could choose to buyout CHQ (which might be the only way to not violate a contract), but that could cost some $$ and actually have a negative effect on Eagle's situation. And sure, they will use that as leverage. It's a weapon available to them.

He is, but that's only about 13 of the 60 or so 50 seat jets CHQ flies. Every time BB mentions that he's getting out of the 50 seat market, he strikes up a deal for 12 more 50 seat jets!

Its not just AMR.

Seems to be standard practice at alot of carriers.

Conversation goes something to the effect of:

You cost to much!
Who is cheaper?
Oh yeah....these guys.
Your contract needs to be changed.....
Change or your work goes to them!

Seems to be the standard now.

It's been done already, as I understand it.

The CHQ contract was just updated to end in 2013.
