Over ABQ center:
Bonanza 1234: Albuquerque center BONANZAAA 1234????
Center: Aircraft calling stand by- I'll get to you in a few minutes
Bonanza: BONANZAAA 1234 REQUEST FLIGHT FOLLOWING TO ST JOHNS AT 10,500 AND UHHH WE'RE OVER THE LAKE JUST SOUTH OF THE SANTA FE AIRPORT OVER (He was speaking very loudly and in your face like hense the all caps)
Center: BOnanza 1234, I told you to stand by! that means wait your turn.
Bonanza 1234: UHHHH DID YOU HAVE A BEACON CODE FOR US?!?!?!?!
Center: That is it! I'm unable to give flight following to you!
BOnanza: NO FLIGHT FOLLOWING????!!!!!???
Center: Affirmative, good afternoon.
This kind of crap gives GA a bad name and is all too common among the weekend warrior types (I'll bash WN guys asking for short cuts when everyone else is trying to get around a level five in another thread
). If you can't understand basic ATC procedures then stick to flying around your uncontrolled traffic pattern . The controller was very busy, but was willing to take as many VFR aircraft as he could handle (ABQ center is very easy to work with if you can work with them, both IFR and VFR). By the sound of it he had every intention of giving flight following, but Dr. Bonanaza M.D. had to be a jerk about it. What is it with Bonanza drivers and radio comms anyway? 9 out of 10 stupid things I hear over the radio are from bonanza drivers. Rant over.
