I am in the market for a new headset and I am not too up to date on what is worth the money for piston and some turboprop environments. I have always had David/Clark and am looking to them again, however, I have heard good things about Telex! Any input would be appreciated.

Oh, I am not sure if I want to drop the cheese for a Bose:insane:

Thanks

The DC H10-13.4 is the most popular. It's light, comfortable and affordable (under $300)

My girlfriend and I both use FlightCom's Denali. VERY light, great noise reduction and the price is fair. Check 'em out

Thanks for the info folks! After checking out a few sights and reading the link I think I am going to stay with old reliable D/C. The Denali looks very nice also, but it is hard to pull me away from a product after I develop a relationship with it;) .

In my short time I've had a pair of bose and a paid of DCs. In my opinion the bose arent worth the money. My pair of DC work just fine and are comfy as well. Just my 2 cents though....

Be careful with the denali's. I've had one crack in half, a coworker of mine had two crack in half, plus another coworker had another one crack in half.

Just fyi.

I love my D/Cs. They may not be the "lazyboy" of comfort, but they are at least a great "couch". And they may not have the greatest sound technology in some models, but you can hear just fine as long as you have good radio quality and good sunglasses that don't push the muffs out. Add the unbeatable durability to that and I would drop 2-3 hundred in a heart beat. I shy away from the 800 dollar-type headsets. I have some mechanic friends that were issued Bose. They zap you in moist weather! I know pilots don't have to worry about that but none of the other types of headsets do that, lol.

I used Bose for a while in a King Air and man that noise cancelling makes me a ton less likely to go Medieval at the end of the day. Give me a pair of Daveys with noise cancelling and I'm a happy man.

IMO, the Bose it worth it. I know, I know, I know...$1,000...but believe me when you're instructing 8 hrs a day...you'll be happy you've got them. Not to mention their warranty is top of the line, just wish it was a little longer.

I've had a pair of Lightspeed 30 3g's for 18 months now. Theyve broken twice (the battery box, for whatever reason works one second, you come back five minutes later and it doesnt. Headset will not work, no talk, no listen) but customer service has always overnighted new parts immediately, no questions asked. Other than that I'm happy with them, though they are a little bulky with the large ear seals (which I had to get since the smaller ones, after prolonged use compressed and the right ear cup starting giving me some nasty feedback).
I think I just talked myself out of my headset...I WANT SOME BOSE!

got a pair of Denalis, and they have done me well for over 5 years. recently (past year) i had some problems with the ANR, and last week sent them in to get a repair estimate. they replaced the ANR free of charge. also, i did break them last year stuffing them in my flight bag. ended up fixing it myself for $15. they're very durable, but if you try and compare them to the metal DC's, then of course they're more fragile. but, they are very very comfortable, very very light and the ANR is awesome.

Just to add my opinion to all of this. I prefer the lightspeed 30 3Gs over the bose for long durations. The bose are less likely to give feedback, so i wear them when taking pictures from a C-150 with the window open. Other than that the bose cups are too small (my ears arnt that big or dont really stick out though), and my ears and the side of my head gets really hot over long periods of time. After a few hours with the bose I have to put my lightspeeds back on (I'm not rich enough for both but my brother lets me borrow his bose)

Lightspeed Twenty 3G's here. I've used them for flight instructing and flying gutted out freighters and they still work well. There was only one freighter I've flown that had so much sound proofing removed that it was still loud as hell nobody what I did, but for the most part they're great!

I remember standing in dispatch on my training tour of Airnet. I could hear pilots calling in their arrival estimates. You'd hear some clearly and then you'd hear SPSHHHHHHHHH30SHHSHHHPASTSHHHHHHHH

I was like that's the Lears, right? My instructor said heck no that's the Baron. And when I when I was flying the Baron regularly, I noticed the crowd noise at clubs wasn't bothering me anymore:D .

And how do you like the Stratus? I want one eventually....when I'm not spending all my money on training.

I enjoy them a lot. They are on the bigger side but I don't mind. Very comfortable. The switch to ANR was a dream and my ears are very happy for it, especially when instructing and flying everyday. I like the ear pads too. When I got them earlier this year they were in the $650 range. Not bad considering. Also, right after I got them the power box broke. I sent them back as instructed and got them sent back to me pretty fast. Very easy fix and they have worked since. I'm happy.
