Has anyone here ever worked dispatch at Talon Air?

My original instructor said to steer clear of them due to how they treat their employees. They invited me for an interview as a dispatcher though so I wanted to see if anyone has experience with them.

I had to look them up. Also, I don't have any experience with them so take this with a grain of salt...

If you are referencing their Charter Coordinator position, some things might be similar to dispatch but you'll find yourself wearing other hats as well. Lot's of hats. There's nothing wrong with interviewing and keeping your options open though. Even if you ultimately decide on this company, the experience will be a great start if it's your first gig.

But in this climate, and in my opinion, you should reeeally consider 121 scheduled/supplemental, or even operations that mix 121/135. This is if you want to move on up to major operations. I'm not sure if Talon Air mixes it up and I'm not saying majors or LCCs won't consider 135 experience either. The thing is, hiring managers seem to have an easier time with 121 experience - and it goes even further when its 121 scheduled. This is just my observation.

Again, nothing wrong with this as your initial point. You'll likely be learning the application of regulations and manuals with less reliance on automation.

tldr - not a bad option(?), but consider 121 ops.

Yazz to what he said above.... Lots of hats means u will have massive headaches. 135 ops is a major pain in arrse. I did it way back and they had me calling limos, catering, customs, u name it! Total mess. And no fun. 135 crews want nothing to do with you unless their food sucks or the crew car is late. When u even try to discuss wx or route they just say Buh-bye and hang up. But hey, ,it's great!

Lots of hats and I imagine the pay and benefits aren’t the same as 121. Good to know.

Oh NO Way are you gonna get 121 pay! :bounce:
But it might be somewhat reasonable. Where is Talon based? FLA?
Oh, and one last nail in the proverbial coffin, they WILL blame U for every cockup. It's a losing battle, but it's a start.

They're in NY out on Long Island. I ended up turning down the interview. With glassdoor and also with my dispatch instructor confirming their reputation, I think it may have been the right choice for now.

It really seems like ever regional is hiring like crazy. With WN and AA and DL sucking up all the exper'd folks, there are a ton of openings.
I know at least 5 guys from Envoy offered mainline jobs this week. One good thing about Envoy is any new class will begin to use the new software, Flight Keys, and AA mainline will follow very soon. NO MORE SABRE suicides. So, how about Big'D? Cowboys fan?

I’m from Texas, not looking to go back anytime soon
