i guess what i meant was pilot jobs. You would think they want to see your face and see if you fit in to the organization BEFORE they said yes "we want you"
I've been hired like this 4 times. All aviation jobs, 3 of them flying. 3 were government contract gigs, my current gig is 135 charter. In this day and age, it's probably not as uncommon as you think.
Bunch of times... actually, but I have only ever taken one job where I was hired straight off the phone interview, nothing wrong with that policy, it's worth remembering that you're never truly hired until you've passed your checkride anyway.
Freight captain (company folded)
Chief pilot of a startup (lasted 8 months and ran away)
Assistant chief pilot (lasted 16 months and ran)
Hawker captian (still here and love it).
I could see it for some jobs. At some point, you are interviewing the company as much as the other way around. Personally I like to go and see the head office, even if you'll be working remotely. It tells you a lot about the company.
