Has anyone ever been hired with a single phone interview.....not a Skype interview, regular phone.
seems odd that would happen specially in aviation.

i guess what i meant was pilot jobs. You would think they want to see your face and see if you fit in to the organization BEFORE they said yes "we want you"

I've been hired like this 4 times. All aviation jobs, 3 of them flying. 3 were government contract gigs, my current gig is 135 charter. In this day and age, it's probably not as uncommon as you think.

Bunch of times... actually, but I have only ever taken one job where I was hired straight off the phone interview, nothing wrong with that policy, it's worth remembering that you're never truly hired until you've passed your checkride anyway.

My second 135 freight gig was a single phone conversation. Less an interview and more like hangar talk. Enjoyed my time at that company as well.

Freight captain (company folded)
Chief pilot of a startup (lasted 8 months and ran away)
Assistant chief pilot (lasted 16 months and ran)
Hawker captian (still here and love it).

3/4 were bad decisions. The forth is a great one

I could see it for some jobs. At some point, you are interviewing the company as much as the other way around. Personally I like to go and see the head office, even if you'll be working remotely. It tells you a lot about the company.
