Had interview with PSA, Republic to follow...

Why is it unlikely I'd move to a major before 2 years at a regional? I have the quals and time to go direct to a major right now, I will just not likely be current in anything multiengine turbine when I leave the AF.

I've had the qualifications, times, contacts, internal recommendations for 4 years now and I'm still tooling around in an RJ.

Just sayin.

I'm not going to be in the market for at least another year, anyway

Well most can't but you're not your average new hire at the regional level. If you're not in the market for another year, I don't think you'll have a problem bypassing them anyways when Delta and United finally open things up.

United is opening up now and Delta should be going again by Q2 or Q3

United *may* be opening up now. With the new contract signed a lot of the furloughed guys might start coming back. Nobody really knows at this point.

Delta said no pilot hiring plans for 2013.

Repeat after me... there is no pilot shortage. :)

United is ramping up hiring and I believe the majority of furloughed pilots have been called once. United is hitting upcoming job fairs pretty hard.

You guys do ATP at your 141 school? I have no problem learning to land like your average aviator, a big step down for us Naval Aviators who land like Gods

You guys don't land. You arrive.

Somewhat related note, was in LGA earlier this week and our ramp frequency is also American's operations. A plane that just pulled into the gate was reporting that a few oxygen masks had dropped on landing.

Without missing a beat, the guy on the other side asked "Navy?"

Timing is the most important part to humor.

What's strange is I've seen fellow military members get hired to majors right out of retirement, others not get hired and others go to the regionals. Example was last year, we had 1 pilot get hired by Southwest, 2 with regionals and 1 with a private company (91 maybe). All had similar experience, all at 20 years. Seems you never know but again, you have more experience than me in this area.

I got a call from Express Jet today as well, interview in 3 weeks. I would like to get a call from a Legacy :)

Uhh...its Expressjet. All one word.

They won't hire you if you call it Express Jet.

Just kidding, making fun of the Delta Air Lines people :-P

Been swinging gear at ASA/Expressjet for five years. I do bitch and moan a lot, but it certainly could be worse. There are a lot of good people here. I'm based in Dulles, which is a much smaller base so you get to know everyone. Makes work a lot more enjoyable.

It really is a crapshoot. I've seen people with "every box" checked. Great pilots, people, personalities, backgrounds, etc. get calls and interviews.

Then you hear about people moving on to majors and you're like "really? I mean I'm glad he's gone, cause he was an ass. But really?"

One of our flight students was an ExpressJet (learned my lesson :)) pilot, he gave some good and bad about them so I applied. I'm Navy so I'm so used to bitching!!!

Yeah, that's what it seems. I know a particular pilot, fellow Navy pilot at Southwest that makes me say WTF! Another, great pilot, great dude never got the call. Roll the dice!

I actually just got a text from a friend (which I am kind of hoping is a joke but I doubt it) about an FO from here just getting hired at a legacy carrier. Not only is the guy an FO with no PIC, but he's also on the back of just about every compass correction card in the fleet and on a lot of captain's "one of us is calling out sick for this trip" lists.

Oh well.

That happens. There was someone at DH's airline who was a FO who was not liked by anyone from day one of employment to the end. He was a real problem. Then DAL hired him. He is now their problem! Fortunately he will be a FO for quite a long time and have to answer to a CA.

I know it stings when you hear these events when you are qualified. Just keep at it. It will wok out.

You will get your turn--soon I hope!

I heard interview not hired yet? Trip7 probably can answer for you..... He probably would know.

Anybody ever actually been forced to pay that back?

A few uears back RAH's was written so that if furloughed, your payback clock stopped. If you refused recall, you owed the prorated balance based on when you were furloughed. If it was a 2 year contract and you got furloughed after 6 months, you owe 75% even if the recall comes 3 years later.

Just remember those no tail hook and please land AFTER the numbers. :bounce: (sorry couldn't resist)
