Had interview with PSA, Republic to follow...

I live in Corpus and I'm willing to move depending on where it is. I hate Corpus Christi, Texas. Hate is a strong word but that's how I feel about it.

If you're interested in a job flying a PC-12, and you're willing to move to NH, let me know.

Translation for the Air Force Guys, "If you Flare to Land, you must Squat to Pee" ;)

The next time that a winner of a war is determined by how well you land on a boat, the United States Navy is really going to kick butt.

Believe me, I want the majors or something better but as far as the majors go, they are not hiring. United might be the first out the gate and I have a resume in via airlineapps but right now, it's all regionals. I have my resume in for the T-45 simulator job which pays way more than a regional,$80-90K part time but then there goes my flight time. Is there a good website for the 91/135 side? I go to climbto350.com but it seems many of those jobs require time in model or a type in their jet.

Don't give up hope on the majors. One of my buddies just got invited to training at US Airways. He was a regional FO.

That's one thing about the Navy, a pilot could be the absolute best at ACM, putting bombs on target, etc but if he or she can't land on the boat, they are out. It has happened, I know of a few actually.

I'm not alone in my quest, there are a half dozen guy retiring around me, at least 4 of us want airline gigs. I see the FSDO next week to get my commercial, CFI, CFII and MEI. Don't have ATP yet, just written. So USAirways requires one or the other according to their website so I will apply to them next week as well. We shall see :) Problem is, a military pilot with 3000TT, with 1800 PIC, 1750 ME (800 PIC ME) is really just average coming out of the military, maybe less than average. I have an MAS from ERAU but it's not exactly worth much if anything, especially outside aviation. Is what it is.

Have you seen the application? It'll take you a week just to fill it out! :D

I imagine that he is taking the strategy that many former military pilots do -- sending out apps to absolutely everyone, taking all the interviews that offer, and taking the first job that is offered (and quitting that one to move on when a better offer comes).

Remember, also, that there are guys like me who are no longer actively flying and are non-current. For the most part we don't have an opportunity to go directly to a major because of that lack of currency.

Just watch out for the training contracts. Republic and others will try to lock you into a 1-3 year commitment or come after for $$$$

Great advice! When in the process would you find out if there is one?

The airline should have it listed on their website with the pilot job description or you will find it in the forums. If you don't know there is one, the airlines will drop it on you sometime during ground school and if you don't sign it you are shown the door. Also, some of the contracts are scary. If you are furloughed, quit, fired, washout etc you owe the money plus all court costs if you fight it. Each contract is different but some are truly scary

just google the airline name and training bonds to find examples...

Are you serious!? Who requires a payback for furlough? I know about the contracts, but I never knew that if you were let go for any of the above reasons (besides quitting) that there would be a payback requirement. Who the heck would agree to that??

A lot of people, they know once you are in ground school for them you've resigned your other job and they've got you by the short ones. Each contract is different, just read the one you sign so you know how screwed you may be if the stuff hits the fan. I understand why they have them but don't agree with it. They wouldn't have to worry about people leaving if they treated them properly.

Anybody ever actually been forced to pay that back?

GLA has taken some to court. I signed a 2 year at Eagle and didn't have to pay it after I resigned on a furlough recall. Honestly most don't worry about it because it's unlikely you'll move up to a major before that time and lateral moves are no fun.

I'm not going to be in the market for at least another year, anyway

Why is it unlikely I'd move to a major before 2 years at a regional? I have the quals and time to go direct to a major right now, I will just not likely be current in anything multiengine turbine when I leave the AF.
