At NBAA I sat in the new Embraer 500 with the fly by wire side sticks. First side stick airplane I've sat in. Now I know what all the "tray table" fuss is about
That gear handle looks like it would break off in a heartbeat. At NBAA I sat in the new Embraer 500 with the fly by wire side sticks. First side stick airplane I've sat in. Now I know what all the "tray table" fuss is about
Not the best pic. The cockpit is a lot roomier than the picture makes it look. It was niiiiice.

Not every gear handle needs to be a giant overbuilt Boeing lever. That gear handle looks like it would break off in a heartbeat.
Hahaha. But I am not worried about it breaking. Not every gear handle needs to be a giant overbuilt Boeing lever.View attachment 33471
YES IT DOES! You take that back! Not every gear handle needs to be a giant overbuilt Boeing lever.View attachment 33471
You should see the one in our Lear 45. It's literally "just the tip" compared to the Boeing one. And I'm totally secure with that. I don't need a big gear handle to prove anything. Wait...what are we talking about.YES IT DOES! You take that back!![]()
I dunno, I'm not sure I want my airplane to be "Self Aware." I want it to be smart, but I also want it listening to what I tell it to do....
"I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that right now..."
I feel like it's that with most airplanes. Should be a definite "KA-CHUNK!" hahaYou should see the one in our Lear 45. It's literally "just the tip" compared to the Boeing one. And I'm totally secure with that. I don't need a big gear handle to prove anything. Wait...what are we talking about.
I have always felt that a good pilot has a good balance of stick and rudder skills, and monitoring skills.I feel like it's that with most airplanes. Should be a definite "KA-CHUNK!" haha
More OT. This thing is going to get the same flak from the "LOL, bush pilot types. HAHAHA THAT'S NOT FLYYYYYIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!". Different kind of flying, but the pilots ARE still flying the plane... Many MANY are worse at button pushing than the worst stick and rudder guy. Actually, I associate "good stick and rudder" with "this guy is going to fly like an idiot" these days... Usually "good stick and rudder" is also accompanied by a "but".
You hit the nail on the head. A pilot needs to be 5 minutes ahead of where the airplane is going to be.I have always felt that a good pilot has a good balance of stick and rudder skills, and monitoring skills.
Oh I didn't mean to sound like stick and rudder aren't paramount. I just get pissed when one dismisses automated flying.I have always felt that a good pilot has a good balance of stick and rudder skills, and monitoring skills.
Exactly. I had a moment recently where the safest thing to do was click on the autopilot. We were leaving BFI on a crappy day, being unfamiliar territory I decided it was safest to click on the autopilot so I could help monitor and get us out of there safely.Oh I didn't mean to sound like stick and rudder aren't paramount. Uhhhh, I don't know about that...Exactly. I had a moment recently where the safest thing to do was click on the autopilot. We were leaving BFI on a crappy day, being unfamiliar territory I decided it was safest to click on the autopilot so I could help monitor and get us out of there safely.
