Gulfstream Academy's Shrinking Classes

"Trust me. Some airline captains don't have a clue"

I see you've met some Captains. And I guess you've flown for GA too right? And leave the Gangsta alone. He is a good guy. But you are right this is for advice and everyone has their own opinion. I and others have ours and you and the others have yours. And as I stated before it does not matter what route you took, and you know this as well, if you pass the interview and get through their training, you will get hired. But having Part 121 experience and some kind of Turbine Time gives you an edge. And those are the facts. By the way it's Cuban Coffee ala Cafe con Leche con mucho azucar... Just the way I like the girls in the clubs.

A) De727ups has met a few captains.

B) There are no easy ways in this industry. You have to pay your dues.

C) The thing is to get the interview. Its who you know.

D) The bad news, my airline has WAY to many people from Gulfstream. The good news is they have stayed away from hiring from there recently and I really don't think they will in hire from there in the future. Secondly, I have not met one of the former Gulfstreamers who said it was a good experience. I laugh my a$$ off when they tell me how much they paid and I tell them how much I paid for my ratings to get to the same place that they are.

dude its your life you do what you wanna do with it, if you got the money go for it...

"I see you've met some Captains. And I guess you've flown for GA too right?"

I'm a 757/767 Capt at UPS. I own a Luscombe, a Geronimo Apache, and a 152 aerobat as well as being a CFI since 1980.

"And as I stated before it does not matter what route you took, and you know this as well"

What I know is there are a lot of right ways and a couple of wrong ways. Scabing and Gulfstream style PFJ are the wrong ways.

"The bad news, my airline has WAY to many people from Gulfstream."

I remember when a JC member interviewed there he mentioned one of the Colgan's thought Gulfstream was a great way to enter the career. I was saddened by this as the only way to make PFJ go away is to not hire people from these programs. I hope your right about them hiring less PFJ'ers.

I've been at UPS 17 years and I've only met one person who was at Gulfstream. She was a street Captain.

"So what do you think about being a street Captain at Gulfstream?"

I have absolutely no problem with it, though I'm sure some folks do. It's not PFJ and you paid your dues before you got there.

Not disagreeing with you Don, but in your opinion would being a street captain at an organization that prides itself in PFJ further assist in bringing the industry down?

My opinon is expressed in my earlier post. Don't be afraid to disagree with it.

Sorry was out working. You're right there is nothing wrong with being a Captain from the street or from GA. What's the difference? You're flying and you're living you're dream. And yes Northeast boy there are many GTA pilots over there. Actually in the last 3-4 years over 450...I wonder why? And they are getting paid just like you now. I do not know of any other program with those kinds of numbers. You can say the same for AirTran, Spirit even Continental. What was the scab comment before about? Actually the young Turnbough and Swanson were both just hired on to Continental the past year directly from GA. I feel real bad for them, they are going to have a terrible career now because their Dad's are scabs (sarcasm)...Wake up and smell the Cafe Cubano!

So just to clarify, there is no way you are going to post in members announcements, are you? There is no way you'll give background info about your current job and how you got there, is there?

If you have something to say, and it's something you believe in, the only way people will listen is for you to come clean.

Any chance?

"they are going to have a terrible career now because their Dad's are scabs (sarcasm)...Wake up and smell the Cafe Cubano!"

Actually, they might have to put up with a lot of crap and second glances for quite some time. Like "oh, your that kid"...

It's not something I'd want to live with.

Like I said before, there are right ways and wrong ways. It's rare to see any sort of pro-scab statement out of a professional pilot...very rare. Are you sure you are one?

To be honest, that's not necessarily true. Airlines have actually turned down people with said 121/turbine experience. If what you said was correct, then the stats would prove it, and Gulfstream and schools alike would be the most successful school in the country. Basically, it's to each his own. If they like you, they'll hire you. To have the attitude that you have an edge simply because of that route is to be sadly mistaken.

Just ask around. Take a sample on your own. Find out if the majority of professional pilots out there have gone that route. Better yet, find out from the airlines just what exactly they're looking for.

"I've been at UPS 17 years and I've only met one person who was at Gulfstream. She was a street Captain"

Did some inquiring and she was not a street Captain she went through the GTA program. And again when it comes to getting hired the airlines don't really care where you came from as long as you get through their training. If that wasn't true then I guess these airlines wouldn't be hiring anyone. By the way, FYI, Spirit Airlines just hired over 12 Captains from Gulfstream Airlines. All GTA graduates.

Wow. You did some inquiring... I'm impressed...

pause

NOT

Why not just post the persons name if you want me to believe you so I can ask her again next time I fly with her? Why would she lie? And if she did lie, what does that say about how she feels about her past?

You're right about one thing. Airlines don't care where pilots get their experience. Some pilots do, though. Again, as I said before, and I know you don't want to believe it, but do a search of JC, APC, or flightinfo, and you will get the truth about how the majority of folks feel about PFJ and Gulfstream. How do you explain Gulfstream's rep online?

By the way, what's the Gulfstream take on both the PCL 3701 pilots having been at streamers at one time? Do some "inquiring" on that and get back to us...
