Anybody online lately who works for Great Lakes? The last real news I heard was that it will be quite a while before they are ready to take the EAS stations that we have. Now I'm hearing rumots that they might not even take them at all. What's the deal?

I don't know - they were hurting for pilots and airplane the last time I ran into them - they've won a lot of cities in Kansas and if they're picking up Skyways cities. They've a pilot shortage on their hands.

I just looked at their numbers on APC. It's no wonder they can't find people. $15/hr and a $7500 15mo training contract.

I haven't had that good of a laugh since AirTran's buy out was declared a "done deal.":rotfl:

What are thier minimums?

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education or Formal Training:
  • 4 year degree preferred
Experience:
  • 750 Hours Total Time
  • 50 Hours Multi Engine Time
  • Commercial Certificate
  • Current Class 1 Medical
  • Instrument and Multi Engine Current
Additional:
Recommendation from current staff pilot weighed heavily

For $15/hour. No wonder they have a pilot shortage.

yeah thats the "posted mins" but they called me a few months back. I had 430TT/90ME at the time. After reading a bit and talking to others I passed on that interview offer. That training contract sucks and so does the pay. With all the other airlines hiring and with fast upgrade times that is the last place I would want to go aside from MESA(no offense to anyone working at either carrier). But then again, if your single and they have a base near you it might be worth it...

FYI - the mins posted above are not the true mins. A gentleman from my old flight school got on with somewhere around 400/25. For better or for worse.

Had someone ask me when I was instructed why I didn't apply at Lakes. Told them I didn't wanna take a pay cut from flying 172s to go fly a B1900.....

Seriously, I was making $1 more an hour as an instructor.

Yeah, I'd also be taking a substantial pay cut (quite a bit more than $1/hr) to switch from instructing to GL flying. It's too bad, as I'm from the Denver area originally and would like to move back, and it sounds like some good flying experience. But the pay and training contract are unreasonable it today's job market. Not really sure how they even get pilots with that compensation (or lack of)...

Wait, I thought that they were REALLY kind and would let you ride up front for a small fee? Did that change?!?! :sarcasm:

So...anywho...I guess the word on syx EAS is "nope".

My guess is that nobody who works for Great Lakes can afford a computer, and, therefore, cannot contribute to this thread. Anybody who didn't stay 15 months is too strapped paying off the $7500 training note, too.

As for the Teamsters, I know that 15 years ago, $15/hr was pretty good pay for driving a delivery truck.

Some people on here sound like they think they are so much better than everyone else. I'm happy I work at Lakes. I wish I made more money but don't we all? Mainly I blame the union, yes people come and go within 3-4 years here or sooner if they aren't shooting for a major. The Teamsters magazine I get says how proud they are that they fought for $25,000 salary for Parking Garage employees, meanwhile they represent good 'ol GLA. I have a feeling that come next negotiation period what with the pilot shortages at all regionals Great Lakes will get better representation from Teamsters or the pilots will go elsewhere. I work at Lakes and own a 2000 sq foot house and drive a nice car, I'm typing this up on a nice Apple laptop. I budget and am living better than I did when I went to College. As long as I get to a major and start collecting job security a few years before people I graduated with/flight instructed with, I'll be happy with my choice.
