The Teamsters magazine I get says how proud they are that they fought for $25,000 salary for Parking Garage employees, meanwhile they represent good 'ol GLA. I have a feeling that come next negotiation period what with the pilot shortages at all regionals Great Lakes will get better representation from Teamsters or the pilots will go elsewhere. I work at Lakes and own a 2000 sq foot house and drive a nice car, I'm typing this up on a nice Apple laptop. I budget and am living better than I did when I went to College. As long as I get to a major and start collecting job security a few years before people I graduated with/flight instructed with, I'll be happy with my choice.

I applied to Lakes at the same time I applied to the other regionals. Never got a call back. They were hiring then too. The funny thing is when I was jumpseating to Denver to start sims on GL the FO asked me how I got a call back at my current company, he had applied there. I asked him the same thing!!

I was attracted to the quick upgrade and Denver base. I really do like Denver, very pretty out there. But the east coast is also nice.
 
I loved working at Great Lakes it's more like a Frat. then an airline. Where else are you going to fly with senior Capts. that are 24 years old. Lot of crazy overnights and who could not for get the lakes air dodgeball team. I upgraded in 8 months got 1400 PIC Turbine and got into a major all my college buddies are still at regionals. But yes the pay really sucks you have to learn budgeting. The training is really tough and I know my flying skills will never be the same as when I worked there.

What was so hard about the training? PM me if you want, I'm considering joining the laker team.

Regardless of the pay rate, I'll take the upgrade time, plus the stick time (no autopilot.) I feel the experience and piloting is worth it.

And also, if they pay 15$ an hour for papa johns delivery guys, I'm pretty sure they don't fly 1900's and get to do what pilots do on a daily basis. In fact they might just drive a 1989 nissan sentra and be in debt till they're 50. Just a thought.

I know I'm going to get some flak for this one......
 
Just they have a high wash rate basically do it right the first time in the sim. kind of thing, but as I was leaving thier pass rate was going imporving. Just work hard and you will do fine I miss the Beech its like a little sports car man. Let me know if you have anymore ??

so basically it's a do it right the first time in the sim or you're screwed? How long was the training btw?
 
Ground school is about a month in CYS followed by a week of sim and then a week of training in the aircraft. They put you up but don't pay you no worries though your class will find the local dollar beer bar. Sometimes you have a week of between sim and ground school depending if you get first or seconed slot. They take the guy with the highest test scores and he pick first so one. Good luck man if you go thier I think you will like it I loved it. Very close pilot group.
