Applied with them a long time ago, actually got the tnt email, and now i keep getting "We have reviewed your credentials and are very interested in speaking with you about our current openings...". I am unavailable to take that job, but if any of you guys are interested, they seem to be... needing pilots :)
Right now they are holding interviews 8-11 in denver. You're on your own for the ride there and back.

buddy of mine just had to pump the landing gear down on a trip into Vegas, he's making about $16k.

they dont pay for your ticket to the interview, they dont pay you during training, they pay you extremely poorly once you do start flying.... why does anyone put up with this place when other companies are hiring? Go to Ameriflight if you wanna fly a 1900

I totally agree with you. I can barely understand how people can go there when the industry is down, but with all of the other regionals hiring I just don't get it.

I'm not in a position to accept a job paying 16k and even if I were, I tend to think that my services are worth a little more than that.

I would leave aviation altogether if the pay was like that across the board. I just don't think that "experience" is worth the lack of pay. I'm sure some may disagree but I will not work for free....not going to happen.

Dont you have to pay for your own hotel room too?

LOL funny you mention that. I know a former laker capt who went there got his 1000 TPIC and left he told me that was common to pump down the gear..I would like to know where the hell the FAA is on this. I am working with guys here that are getting LOI's (letters of investigations) for trivial paperwork errors left and right. You would think landing gear not coming down would command some attention.

Great place to work when Rayathon is reposessing the AC in Aug. Who the heck wants to work here? Hey FAA if it is time to revoke a certificate, it is now!!

It's an option for a low time pilot and the pay is actually a raise for a lot of instructors. Ameriflight has 135 mins.

As a guy who is going there, I have to disagree with a common remark "don't go there!". Some people don't have other regionals busting down their door wanting to hire them and It can be their only option. I have applied to ALL of the other regionals, and so far lakes and TSA were the only ones interested enough to want to interview me. I couldn't even get an interview for whatever reason with eagle despite having 860/100, they just aren't interested. In fact a friend of mine was a saab driver at colgan, and lakes was the only bit he was able to get, but wasnt hired. I know the pay I a huge draw back, but when I look back at having had a $144 paycheck for 2 weeks of instructing, I know my pay will INCREASE there. Any bad month of pay at lakes will surely be better than a good week of instructing. I'm very frugal and can live off it, because I'm used to it. maybe others go there because they want to get some good experience with weather, mountain flying, get awesome at hand flying and their instrument scan, and multi turbine PIC pretty quick. While others will still be sitting in the right seat in their 2 or 3rd year of an RJ waiting to upgrade, someone having flown at lakes will have left after their 15 months with some nice turbine pic and be on their way to a major flying something bigger and better. Believe me, I would've loved to be going to eagle, or preferably mesaba or colgan (for the Saab), but that isn't happening this time, I need to go to lakes cause it's my only option. But I will make the best of it, and do the best that I can, it could always be worse. I could be back in the army sleeping in a puddle on a cold night again.

I just don't understand how people can take the GLA job.. The pay, the conditions, the AC, the everything. Its just so ridiculous. If you take that job, you're practically bending over and taking it.

I seriously feel for you. You are braver than myself. Good luck man

Actually lakes will give you a ticket with them provided you fly with them. Yes the pay is horrible, but with in a year, maybe 6-9 months, a person will upgrade and start with $26/ hour which isn't great but is doable. Housing is paid for during training.

If you or anyone else wants to help me get a job at your regional, then I'd be glad for, and would appreciate it. Please feel free to walk my resume in, place it on the desk of the hr and chief pilots desks and help me get a job there.

Good luck at Lakes. I have met guys that enjoyed working there, you'll get to figure out if it works for you and become a much better pilot whether it works for you or not.

I hear you on the pay raise as compared to instructing. Do you have the job offer or only the interview?

Have a job offer and a class date for august. Waiting to hear what tsa has to say about my recent interview.

Just out of curiosity why Mesaba/Colgan over others. Is it just for the SAAB, or do you have a thing for Turboprops? The pay is lower there compared to others also. Do you seriously think you will get on with a major after a year or so at lakes? I'm not trying to incite things I'm genuinly curious. Sometimes the "quick upgrade" isnt worth it. Trust me I know where your coming from. I made 10k instructing 2 years ago but I cant imagine settling for the lowest offer and working my way up. Start at the top and go down the list. Just my 2 cents.

What is the current upgrade time at lakes? A friend of mine worked there a while back and really liked it except for the pay, he's over at fed ex now.
