Great Lakes Hiring

We have a gentleman who just started with us who left Great Lakes after 4 years and never got the chance to upgrade. He left at $21 an hour and didn't have anything positive to say about the operation.

Well obviously he just couldn't hack it. I have it on good authority that no one stays at GLA for more than 3 years, because by then they have their 1000TPIC and are hired at FedEx.

lololololol...I think I just soiled myself.

Good riddance to that dump.

Did you pass training? I know on the other site you expressed concerns while in indoc. Why did the guy get sent home in the last sim?

I made it up to 2 days prior to taking the checkride to getting out online. But yes, I did make it through indoc, systems and sim. Will not discuss the reasons. Even had a checkairman say it was a BS reason why I was let go, and that they should've let it slide.

The problem is the pilot salaries are draining the company they can't afford the planes they have, and are having to return them to Beech. There is another thread on here about GL defaulting on their loan and about to go out of business. I have heard of other companies getting hit by a downturn during a training class and making up reasons to wash out trainees to spare the expense of feeding them once they passed.

How bad would it suck to go with the lowest bottom feeder and still get layed off during the big hiring boom? At least you will come out with that coveted 1900 SIC type rating.

I just went through class there so I'll give you some info. There was a person with 250TT (lowest time person) but they worked there prior, everyone had at least 50 Multi. The training is unpaid, not even per diem to buy food. I had to sell my truck to pay for food and the bills while I was there. In CYS, there isn't a grocery store within 3 miles walking distance. It took me 3 weeks to get the hotel to put a fridge in my room, after I asked EVERYDAY for one, but it was my last week there. Those of us who didn't have a fridge or a car, it became apparent we had to eat out almost every meal, which quickly drained my cash. They're sending 7 1900s back to Beech/Raytheon 'cause they can't pay the bills. The october class was canceled, so those of you thinking this might be a good option, start making other plans. If you aren't hot with your instrument skills, even weak in one tiny area, they'll nail you for it and send you home, one guy was told to go home after his last sim session, so don't even waste your time. We had a few people say "eefff, this I'm going home." Have some cash saved up, cause when they send people home, they tell 'em to go home without an offer of help to get to the AIRPORT. Take it from me, someone who just went through it, keep building your flight time and try go elsewhere. No pay, no per diem, on your own for transportation, and they really treat people like crap. Sure the quick upgrade time is attractive, but that's about all they have to offer.

You had to sell your truck? Dude...
This is a really depressing story, I feel bad for you.

I had a buddy that I worked with a couple years ago that went to Lakes. He has been there 2 years now, with no upgrade in sight. The worst part of it now is...he wants to leave for Eagle.

There have been some newspaper clippings on lakes attempting to get back in the MSP eas market. They are planning on running the december new hire class as well, so they may be starting to see their way out of their debt problems. I think they have some serious issues, but may have been using the threats of liquidation to put pressure on their creditors from squeezing them so tight.
