C-97 is one of those birds where the FE has a HUGE instrument panel at his station. The FE is the one who actually starts the engines, with the copilot....as can be seen.....counting the prop rotations in order to get proper bearing lube and check the hydro.
Growing up in PHX, I can still vaguely remember going to the ANG tanker unit at KPHX and going to see their KC-97s they had at the time. And for the longest time, there was a C-97 flown by Mexico company AeroPacifico out of KTUS that used to haul fish around Mexico....used to see it flying all the time. Unfortunately, it was taken out of service a few years ago and scrapped on-site at TUS. I have personal pics of the scrapping operation somewhere here at home. The former Hawkins and Powers Aviation from Wyoming used a KC-97 as a forest firefighter too.
