Got to fly one of these today...

I was gonna say something when I read that but I didn't want the answer to be: Well how fast is your 172 buddy?

What is the point of a .59m jet? Wouldn't a turboprop be more efficient and/or cheaper and longer range?

maybe not

Dunno - the Conquest we have is about as fast and can take lots more people. The Mustang's top cruise is .63 and we were being overtaken by the big boys left and right, but it didn't seem to worry the controllers, they sent us direct most of the time.

I don't think I would buy one if I had the money, but folks like to charter it.

I saw a Mustang in JFK a few weeks ago. That's a tiny aircraft!

"Hey skipper! Goose the #2 engine and lets watch 'em roll backwards!"

Finally, something slower than an RJ!

Both the Do-Jet and any BAC/AVRO machine made the Canadair/Embraer/Old style 737 look like speed demons...

troopernflight, congrats on getting that first chunk of jet time...

I think the issue is this vs. something like a King Air.

Yes

Mach .59? Controllers must hate these things at those altitudes.

Another one of my points

Wouldn't a turboprop be more efficient and/or cheaper and longer range?

maybe not
Exactly. I dont see the purpose of this aircraft.

Can someone tell me why you would purchase this exact aircraft. What mission can it fulfill that no other bird can, and better?

Pics from the flight today. I'm now part of the FL400 club. Do I get a pin or something? ;-) Sky's very dark up at that altitude.

.48M?? You don't get a pin but you get a ticket for not keeping up with the flow of traffic :)
Hah, yeah, we were pissing off some controllers in the Ft. Myers area this morning. They handled it by bringing us down and flying everyone over us. I don't think the controllers quite understand that this is a jet, but can't nearly go as fast as everyone else. They're thinking, "Citation?", what the heck is wrong with these guys. I definitely would not want to fly it into JFK. It would probably be a very bad day for us.

Our typical Modus Operandi with the Slow-tations is climb-climb-climb and run the faster Jets underneath. In descent normally we get them in trail already.

They want a new jet that's cheap to operate and the want a new plane so that owner can take the bonus depreciation.

I flew for a guy who bought a Pheonom to fly from DAL to his ranch 20 minutes away. Any trip longer than that and he flies his Falcon 50. It's like a little limo for him.

There are just some people that have more money than we could ever imagine and buying a jet is just another little tax write off.

I climb out at 160kias unless I am in a high density terminal area then I must fly 180kias according to my book. :)

Citations have been around for 40+ years and the atc system has been handling them just fine. And why a Mustang instead of a King Air 90? Cause you can top a lot of the weather that you're stuck in at FL260 in a KA, and the cabin is much quieter and smoother.
