Goodbye Career (long)

I really don't buy the 'things happen for a reason' BS. Plenty of $@H* happens for no good reason at all.

I'm sure things will work out for you because I'm sure you will make it happen... for now this royally SUCKS.

But, Ed, you have any contacts at your current employer that you could help ESF out with?

Seriously, I don't think it was you, dude. Look at the big picture there at AE: flowbacks from mainline on the way, job offers being rescinded (jdflight, et al), it's very likely that you would've been furloughed shortly anyway.

It's only the end of the road if you let it be.

. So I had to call the training manager and get my ass chewed. And did I ever. Now I have to fly down to DFW on Monday morning to turn in my letter and manuals. Game over.

Is it just me or does that seem like a severe knee-jerk reaction by a company that has spent several thousand dollars training a pilot? I can understand the ass chewing but being let go seems waaaaaay overboard.

ESF, I wish you the best of luck!

Well, I watched all my hard work get flushed down the tubes yesterday..... In the meantime, here I sit, avoiding phone calls from my family because they think I had my flight last night and want to see how it went. I just don't have the heart to tell them that I am indeed, a screw-up.

ESF- Why didn't you just buy a one way ticket for Petes sake??? While it wouldn't have been cheap at least it would have saved you this "black mark" on your resume and you could have jumped ship in 6 months with jet time.

Sorry to hear the bad news. I must say you moved up in the industry faster then anybody else I know, so look at this as a speed bump, I would be very surprised if by next year at this time your not flying left seat on something with a few jets behind it. Your story does reconfirm for me that the airlines are a "silly" place to be. We'll have to catch up sometime, next time I know I'm going to be in Ohio I'll let you know.

Best of luck.

Yeah, definitely man. I'll be around here until spring probably at least. Going back to my old gig flying the King Air I think, until I find something else.

Hows your new job going?

If I remember correctly, you've got a descent chunk of hours with some turbine mixed in, right? Have you applied at XJT yet? That might be a very viable option seeing as they're interviewing about every other day at this point.

So far so good on the new job. It's taking some time to get accustomed to the systems and the crew procedures, but I'm loving it. The PC12 is a fun plane to fly and we're taking it into some cool places.
Over all I'd say the King Air isn't a bad backup, hey you've got one more prop then I do.

Hey, man.

Sorry to hear the bad news. All I can do is wish you well and say, don't give up.

I definitely think that everything happens for a reason. You'll get back on your feet and get picked up by another 121 outfit. Just don't give up!

ESF:

Sorry to hear about the bad break. That definately sucks. I can't beleive the company would do that to someone. After all they dumped a lot $$$ and time into your training. A similar thing happend to me and company did chew me out then made me a must ride on the next flight. They took the attitude of your new and haven't learned the game yet.

Just and FYI for the future. If you can't get there it is always better to call in sick than tell them you can't commute in. Then you can jumpseat in later in the day or the next day and tell them you are feeling better and want to pick up the trip on day 2 or 3. Just don't non-rev on your own carrier then can double check to see if you got bumped...

I'm sure you will be back in the saddle again pretty soon. The industry is slowly coming around and people are still hiring. Just be honest in the interviews if they asked what happened. Don't volunteer anything though.

Good luck

Ok so let me recap:

By age 22 you:

-Went through all the ratings up to CFII
-Found 2 CFI gigs
-Flew a Bonanza around while someone paid you
-Flew a KingAir as PIC/SIC (not sure which doesn't matter)
-Went through some college
-Got hired on at a regional

And you wanna give up now?

To me sounds as if you already know how to triumph over adversity and reach your goals despite what others may think or say... now it's just on a little bit bigger scale ... I think you had even said this is the first really big bump in the road thus far....

take a moment and recompose ya' self and get back up ... there are alot of us lil' guys following in your path who look up to you and are encourgaged by your success and learn from your experience.. both positive and negative !!

Go get em' man !!

Man, I don't 'know' you at all, but from the history on this site, I don't think you have any quit in you.

I look forward to the post that I know I'm going to see from you in the not too distant future that tells us about your success with your next job.

Never quit.

[/ QUOTE ]that's what I think too... there's just no "Quit" in your dictionary bro! just gotta make sure you never allow "Quit" or "Can't" to be written in there! you've come too far to switch directions...bumps in the road always occur and so, you learn from them and move on to the next hurdle!keep on keeping on!

get those resumes out there and let us know what happens!

btw.. did you hand your manuals in already? and if so, what did the chief training pilot tell you (if it's ok to ask that?)?
