Almost three years and counting...

Last Cycle was in the early 90's... They typically run/ran about 10-11 years...

The TSA

[/ QUOTE ]

Not sure what effect they are having. Passenger traffic has returned to pre 9/11 levels and wait times for security are resonable.

[/ QUOTE ]

People still hate dealing with the TSA... There have been many reports that show people are still willing to drive distances of around 300 miles where they once flew... Yes traffic may be near pre-9/11 levels, but it SHOULD have been at mid-2004 levels by now (probably 15-20% higher)

Regional Jets

[/ QUOTE ]

Pretty soon airlines will figure out that pax hate these things and you can't make serious money with them. Would I rather ride a Coex ERJ or JetBlue A320? Indy Air will show that RJs can't make it own their own.

[/ QUOTE ]

If airlines can operate them cheaper than full sized airliners, they will use them... as we have already seen the explosive growth in RJ's... $$$ talk...

large number of LCC Carriers

[/ QUOTE ]

Is this a bad thing? LCCs pay decent and don't farm a bulk of their flying to RJs.

[/ QUOTE ]

Not necessarily a bad thing, I think the LCC's have their cost structure in a much more realistic place than the old legacy carriers... The past of making huge money and working very little is gone, however...

I just read in Plane and Pilot(July 2004, page 80) that because of cyclic pilot hiring, we can expect the next hiring boom about 2010.

We only have to wait 4 years to get ready.

I wouldn't count on it. But it would certainly be great for some of us.

Most regionals don't require and ATP, that is premarily for Captain Upgrade although having the ATP written done is usually a plus.
