Good news

I just read in Plane and Pilot(July 2004, page 80) that because of cyclic pilot hiring, we can expect the next hiring boom about 2010.

We only have to wait 4 years to get ready.

In 2007 I graduate hs. In 2010 I will be 21 and if this is true I will be getting hired for the regionals.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch. We have seen many changes in the aviation world, and who knows what can happen! You can't even get hired by a regional at 21, you need an ATP which requires an age of 23..

I could be wrong, but am I right about the ATP?

I don't know about the ATP, but yes you can get hired by a regional at 21. One of the Jetcareers members did so. I know part of his username is MTSU.

I know it may change what they are saying here. But I am saying that if these circumstances do apply then I probably would be getting hired by a regional.

You only need the ATP to act as PIC, not SIC. Even though he got hred at 21, he was certainly one of the lucky ones. Im a class of 07 too, and honestly, I don't see myself in a position to be hired at 21 for a regional.

You can get hired at the regionals under 21. It would be damn hard/near impossible to do, but with different minimums, maybe. You only need the ATP to fly left seat/PIC.

I don't think there will be a hiring 'boon' by 2010, it's really too difficult to say... Who knows.

No one has a crystal ball (especially rags like Plane & Pilot)... These people are basing their projections off of previous cycles...

In this "cycle" there is a whole new range of factors that have never been present before in other "cycles" such as Domestic Based Terrorism, The TSA, Regional Jets, large number of LCC Carriers, etc... To name just a few...

Just like they say in investing "Past performance is no indication of future returns"...

Take it from someone who has been through a "cycle" or two in this industry... Don't count your chickens before they hatch...

That sounds like the sales pitch from PanAm.

I just received a mailing that said the same thing.

Or Kit Darby...

(I feel nauseated just typing that name)

Who is this Kit Darby that everyone speaks so highly of.?
grin.gif
I am fairly new to the aviation world (ppl 06/03, Instrument Rated very soon) and was just wondering. Is he the evil founder of PFT? Or something like that.

Kit Darby is a UAL Pilot who owns his own business which promotes the "never ending pilot shortage" and if you buy his stuff he will tell you how to be in a prime position to get hired in the next hiring boom which is perpetually "right around the corner"... The problem is, every corner is smoke and mirrors...

Here is some of his diatribe:

"Pilot hiring for 2003 promises to exceed 7,000, so prepare now! Let AIR, Inc. help you develop and implement a successful airline job search plan."

Gee, does anyone here know of 7,000 airline pilots getting hired in 2003? I can think of a few thousand who got furloughed!!!

Now I wasn't a Math major, but I seem to remember that 2010 minus 2004 is 6. Hell, maybe it's the new math.
grin.gif

So when I get hired in a year or two I can look forward to moving up the seniority list quickly with all those newbies coming on by 2010! sweeeeet!

Gotta look at it from a different view!

Domestic Based Terrorism

[/ QUOTE ]

Almost three years and counting...

[ QUOTE ]
The TSA

[/ QUOTE ]

Not sure what effect they are having. Passenger traffic has returned to pre 9/11 levels and wait times for security are resonable.

[ QUOTE ]
Regional Jets

[/ QUOTE ]

Pretty soon airlines will figure out that pax hate these things and you can't make serious money with them. Would I rather ride a Coex ERJ or JetBlue A320? Indy Air will show that RJs can't make it own their own.

[ QUOTE ]
large number of LCC Carriers

[/ QUOTE ]

Is this a bad thing? LCCs pay decent and don't farm a bulk of their flying to RJs.

Just trying to see the good side of things.
