GoJet, Yup, For Real, A thread about it.

A friend from this website who wanted to remain anonymous called me asking for a bit of advice. I gave him my opinion, and told him to make a thread to ask for others. Knowing the history of how these threads usually go, he was quite hesitant. I don't blame him, but I'm actually curious of a current opinion about the place. This is not a flamebait thread, and I'm really hoping, that the JC community can keep it professional for his sake. His choice was to possibly go to GoJet or another regional with no contract and one of the lowest pays in the industry. I told him to weigh the pro's and con's and if I was in his shoes, I'd absolutely go to GoJet over this other regional if I had to choose one. Below are the pro's and con's I could come up with.

Pro's for GoJet:

Better Bases
Better Equipment (kind of, if you care about the Jet over Turboprop deal)
A contract
Much better pay and QoL

Con's for Gojet:

Possible problems commuting
Possible problems with your career in the future (viewing GoJet's as a blackmark on your resume)
Currently a quicker upgrade time at the other regional

I'd like to hear some opinions from the airline guys.

Keep it classy JC...

Since he is obviously informed of the whole GoJet issue and he is still seriously considering GoJet, it makes this almost not even worthy of discussion.

It's basically everything I need to know about the guy, without even knowing him.

Thanks for making the thread for me James, I think I have decided on GoJets.

Alex.

Was the whole creation of GoJet's a travesty? Absolutely...but does a new hire at this point and time have anything to do with its creation?

Expand on it if you're willing to do a bit of writing big guy.

Yeah so I created a whole section called "Mind Numbing Topics" with archives of my views, so I've already done it, small guy! ;)

Why does it have to be between these two companies?

Tell him to get some more time and apply to a place where you don't have to be hesitant to start a thread about a potential employer. He obviously knows the stigma behind it, so...why?

.

That says a lot right there. Possible long term career repercussions should be a major factor in his decision making. Sooner or later he’s going to hope for employment at something better. If going to GoJets is going to be a “kiss of death,” . . . or even if it’s a kiss of death at certain carriers, to his future career; what more is there to think about? Why potentially limit your future possibilities?

From what I hear going to Gojet isn't as bad as people make it seem on this forum as far as the ramifications of working there.

I'm not saying it is a good choice, but a lot of the huff about the place is mainly with the vocal minority on the forums. I personally would hesitate going to any company owned by TSA.

With that said, there are definitely many more places better than Gojet.

seems to me that if your friend's choices are between GoJet and the lowest pay in the industry then his/her choice is relatively insignificant. We don't know what is driving your friend's choice in the direction chosen, but there must be some rationalization. I suppose anyone can justify the end means if it fits into their perception of reality. But, I just don't get it. All I can say is that the folks I've known that have SJS have regret decisions that have been driven by emotion and their own personal need to feel that they are advancing their career in some way. And at the risk of sounding crass and nullifying all I have said here, which I have meant, I would say best of luck to your friend, but I really don't care.

There's more than two regionals out there plus a bunch of 135 operators....

He/She doesn't have 135 mins, isn't in a position to get 'em, and those are just the two that have called so far. I'm sure he'll get more ops in the future. Just think he's real ready to move on from his non-aviation gig.

Hmm

there's always being a CFI.....

Shortcuts usually don't work...

kinds of ironic that 135 won't take him because he's too low on time but in 121 it's hey come fly 50-100 people around with no experience...
