GoJet pilot on the radio

I teach out of a class C airport so things can get overwhelming for a new student pilot. One of my students has been struggling with radio calls so I instructed him to use student pilot on the initial call. It’s been effective as the controllers have been slowing down their clearances.

One evening we get our clearance and call up ground using student pilot. We get our taxi instructions when here comes Lindbergh calling up ground for taxi and includes student pilot with a laughing voice. I’m sure it was funny to him but you could tell my student took it as the GoJet pilot making fun of him.

I really wanted to make a comment about GoJet but decided to keep it professional in front of my student. While it may have been funny to him, it clearly affected my student self esteem.

Let’s not be dbags to new student pilots.
10:1 that shower (really, I can't speak German on this forum??) on the radio got his private less than two years ago, and got hired in the last 3 months. This too shall pass... and it would be really sweet if it passed in a Darwinian fashion.

That's when you tell your student that this guy is being a douchebag...and it wasn't long ago that GoJet pilots were pariahs of the regional world.
They're NOT anymore?!? I just can't seem to keep up.

I can't say I don't chuckle sometimes at what students say, because we've all been there either in the right seat as an instructor trying to correct them or in the left seat of a Cessna making the same mistakes. The only ones that actually get on my nerves are the weekend warrior old dudes that take 30 minutes to get through a radio call while you're just trying to get a taxi clearance.

I think a lot of times that Type-A personality is mistaken for what it really is. Narcissistic, sociopathy.

Some quick things to remember. The loudest person in the room is ALWAYS the weakest.

"Turning Japanese. I think you're turning Japanese. I really think so."
Pretty sure that's universal. Wish 'Murican's understood the concept. We might not be facing our current conundrum.

Chances are, someone that does that over the radio will have other misssteps that will hopefully stifle their career progression.
These days it seems missteps rarely impede anything, let alone career progressions.
Identifying and impugning the misstepper? ... That's a different story.

Sometimes people need thicker skin.

I can hear the snowflakes melting from my hotel room.

I totally get how it could be taken the wrong way but there are a lot of dicks in aviation, it goes along with the Type A attracted to operating the equipment.
Yeah, no. Going to disagree with this mindset that being unprofessional and a jerk, is just the student being a snowflake. There is a time and place for jokes, this will as neither.

Just because the industry is filled with people like him, doesn't mean it should be swept under the rug. Otherwise why don't we just sweep all the guard calls under the rug?

Plus the "stop being a snowflake" defense just seems to be carte blanche for being a general Richard these days.

I did my training out of KFCM, I believe you know the place.... ;-). I always found it helpful listening to LiveATC.net.

This. There's jokes with people you know well and there's being an absolute ass to people you don't know. Not doing the latter is just social common sense.
I absolutely agree with you, however, this went away with "political correctness".
