Going back to Comair

Freedom Dash 8 operation in JFK is a joke! Mesa leased the oldest Dash 8s in the world. N810LR is Dash8-100 S/N 003. If anyone knows about how production works the first two or three of the production line are test birds. Material support is a nightmare beyond comapare. I thought when I was in the Navy and trying to upkeep and fly in over 30 year old helos that would be the hardest job ever, but this takes the cake. Delta has to be out of their minds! It's going to bite them and Mesa in the a$$.

I've been on Freedom three times between JFK and PWM. Once was subbed for an ERJ, because the startup has gone so horrendously. The other 2 times there were FRL ERJs parked to go to other destinations.

I never realized 810 was the oldest -8 in the world. That was one that I was on and that would describe the experience perfectly. The leasing agent probably gave them for free the plane to get it off of their ramp, and in the air.

Most are from Air Jazz. The ERJ's have been positioned up there to cover. 810 is still in Canada going through Delta confomity. These Dash's have Beta now like the EMB-120. They go through conformity in Canada and then fly to Roswell to get the Delta paint and then to PHX to finish up the final touches, and once finished, off they go to JFK for revenue flying. It's not really Mesa that's to blame but Bombardier. they are the worst as far as customer service and support. I have no problems getting parts from Embraer and if it's not avail at Embraer in FLL, it usually has to be maunfactured in Brazil and takes an extra day or two.

I got my multi at the (then) Schmidt Aviation in Blue Ash. The guy who runs it now was the chief pilot back then, and now it's called Blue Ash Aviation.

Good place, and it at least was cheap. Aztec with known ice and radar for $179/hr. They also had 172's, 182, an rg, and some diamonds from what I recall. That was 4-5 years ago, however.

I would only describe it as 'decent' now. He is an ok guy I guess but you MUST have a $200 non-owner policy to rent and it's no longer anywhere near cheap. The 182 is something like $73 an hour dry plus 13.5 gallons(if I remember correctly) at current retail giving you a total cost of around $120 an hour and it's old, somewhat rundown, and doesn't even have a GPS. He charges a dry then a fuel charge of the average burn times the retail proce. You pay this fuel charge in full regardless of how much you use.....you can use 6 gallons or 13.5 but you're still paying for 13.5. Plus the rental rules are ridiculously restrictive - no doubt to get the insurance premiums down as low as possible.

The Aztec is long gone.

Oh yeah, the City of Blue Ash is in a mad rush to shut down the airport and it looks like it's probably going to happen.

Well now we have a home to live in. We leasing to own a 2 yrs old house in Erlanger KY. It's only four miles from the Comait GO building. I can take my time getting off to work! The only part I hate about this is the drive to CVG. Monday will be my last day at Mesa. We're out of here on Wednesday morning. Next Monday, I'll start a week of indoc, mostly a review.
