I think (and hope) you are correct about the illusion (love your pun, but in this case, the obstacle was clearly not the illusion...).
Regarding displacement of the intake vector if the engine gets bent downward?? Not so much. That would tend to severely screw things up.

I would think it would take quite a bit of displacement, at least moreso than debating if it’s an illusion, to disrupt flow enough to surge.

And if it was doing that, wouldn’t the pylons break?

My guess is they pitched up for the go around without advancing the thrust levels until ground contact. Looks like a -320neo so might explain the weird noise prior to dirt impact (fan howl).

I dunno, that fan howl is pretty spectacular. As is the fact that it's deadly quiet in cruise (which might be a bad thing), that it burns marginally more than the Super Size RJ while carrying thrice the people, and that it comes with a real paycheck.

Chicks may dig beta, but they also dig men who are around and buy dinner sometimes.
