Geographical locations

It's the last day of April. Has anyone received an e-mail from OKC specifying the applicant's two choice locations?:laff:

HA, I'm checking on the hour...hopefully the panels meeting next week will get hold of our selections in time :panic:

If you don't mind me asking, what are your geographic preferences? Also, what makes up a good geographic preference? Pay seems like it'd be important, but anyone that has worked long enough knows that pay alone doesn't make a job worthwhile. Just curious! :)

The deal was everyone had to finish the ATSAT first. Today's the last day for taking the ATSAT across the country, so I'd expect something tomorrow or Friday.

I just took the atsat monday in chicago and got my score today. Super excited with the news and the quickness of the reply. hopefully we will all hear something by the end of the week... so do you all know about this panel thing?

I live in Rhode Island. Hoping to stay here, but there is only one FAA tower in the whole state so it doesn't look good. I am, however, only an hour from Boston. I wouldn't mind going there either.
I haven't noticed anyone post about wanting to go to the north-east...anyone interested?

My top 3 choices -

KSNA - Orange County, CA
KCNO - Chino, CA
KLGB - Long Beach, CA

Unfortunately, places like CA, TX, and FL are crapshoots because there are so many facilities in each one. More power to you though in getting what you want!

I'm personally hoping for either TUL (Tulsa Int'l), OKC, RVS (Tulsa-Riverside), ICT (Wichita), SGF (Springfield MO), or FSM (Ft Smith AR).

My understanding is there will be a comments box if you need to elabotate on anything. Maybe you can say you prefer Southern Cal to Northern Cal?

hey Sooner...i checked the facility levels of your choices and i was just wondering why you dont want anything higher than a level 9? just wondering because i know i wouldnt take a job unless it was level 10 and higher. i figure if im gonna do ATC i wanna be at the busiest and highest paid.

My highest facility choice is also a level 9 (Orange County). The main reason for this choice is becasue of its proximity to where I live, and my desire to work at that type of facility. Orange County, though not the busiest commercial airport in California (ie, LAX, SFO, SAN) does have some unique challenges and attributes. The shortest commercial jet runway in the US, a very tight traffic pattern for the small aircraft landing/departing on 19L. Plus, it has a lot of everything: tons of helicopter traffic, lots of airline traffic, lots of flight training, and even some warbirds. It all happens in a very tight area (the airport is only about 500+ acres). I've grown up there - my dad is a police helo pilot there, and I have friends who are controllers there. I guess I'm one of those that are looking forward to the challenge of the job and excitement of the day to day activity. John Wayne airport seems like a great place to work, according to the controllers I've spoken with that work there.

bip...

Basically a geographic preference rather than consideration of facility level. I want to stay in the midwest. I'd be seriously concerned if I was starting out at ATL or DFW. ATC is not something you just jump into - it takes a lot of seasoning and development of skills. I wouldn't have time to do that at a Level 12.

...Expect something Thursday or Friday? I wouldn't hold your breath:panic::rotfl:

All of the airport facilities in San Diego, including SAN, are only a level 7, which sucks. The SoCal Tracon which is in San Diego as well is a 12. I do think I want to start at a tower- I just wish there were one with a higher rating in SD I could go to! But I suppose it will be good to start at a lower facility- I just am concerned about being able to pay my bills.

(Though I will be very grateful just to get any facility in San Diego).
