GA into DCA

For those who have done it, tell me if I have this right:

To even fly IFR part 91 into DCA, you need to get an FAA waiver, which involves a TSA background check and takes 5-7 days. You then need a slot reservation online, made between 72 and 24 hours prior to your arrival. Anything else?

Yeah I'm pretty sure you can't do it unless for some very special circumstances. I think the procedure you are talking about is for the DC 3.

I assume you're talking about the Maryland 3. These don't require a slot reservation as far as I can tell, but are inside the FRZ, so you need the waiver and a PIN from TSA.

Doesn't require a FAM. I couldn't tell you the proper terminology without looking now but it is an approved Armed Security Officer.

You're right, no FAMs. I believe there are a couple of companies that are approved to provide ASOs. (Owned by retired Secret Service agents, imagine that:D)

FBOs and operators can also hire and sponsor Armed Security Officers (ASO) as long as that person meets all the requirements.

1. current, former, or retired LEO in good standing
2. 4 years as a LEO
3. Pass background check
4. Attend training at a FAM Field office. ($500)
5. FAA Class 2 medical
and a few others that escape me.

What would an air marshal do if you were flying into the capitol? Shoot you and then go down on top of the capitol anyways?

Does not make sense.

Don't waste your time. It's not worth it. Where are you trying to get your passengers to? If it's DC itself, then I would suggest you fly into Gaithersburg and they can catch the Metro into DC. If it's to Northern Virginia, go to Dulles.

Passengers that can afford to fly a plane private plane do not ride the Metro. It is a rental car or limo.

I did a four hour shoot over the top of DCA w/ a LEO in back. He slept the majority of the time. He did however look like Carl Winslow from Family Matters.

Ok, new question. Is it faster to go from Dulles or Manassas to downtown on a Monday at 9:30 am?
Or maybe from Maryland Airport (2W5)?
