Future of American Eagle

At some point weightings for the experience gained by turning a "pink" slip into an Airman Certificate must surely exceed low times with no "pinks".

I think 2011 will be an interesting year because of this. At some point the pool of "high time/no failures (or whatever the req is)" will dry up. Then where will they go from there? Lower the mins and look for more applicants with no failures? Or keep the mins and relax the "no failures" bit? If the trend continues as AWACs did then AE will be lowering their mins. AWAC started at 1000 or 1500 and lowered it to 800...FWIW

I've seen people get a discontinuance because the airplane breaks during the checkride - insturment ride once with a vacum failure and a commercial ride once because the airplane started losing oil pressure. I believe the applicants got a pink slip because the ride couldn't be completed (not sure, but I think so). My question is - would Eagle or any other regional with a "no failure" rule count that as a failed check ride?

A discontinuance is not a failure. I had one of those and it was due to an unforcast thunderstorm. Maybe the guy didn't have any discontinuance forms and wrote it on a pink slip?

Is that your story, or do you need more time to work on a better one?

A propos to nothing, but it will be interesting to see what the FSDOs do with their common "no one passes on the first try" CFI-A policy.

O
Do your CFI-A in the DEN area. I passed on my first time, even after making a comment about flying with a fouled mag. No, the mag wasn't bad, cleared the spark plugs and we went on our way. That was the MEI. My SE add-on, I screwed up 8's on enormously, and still passed. Turn your failures into a learning experience with a DPE and you should be good. This is why I quoted the other member. You can turn failures into learning experiences. What the regionals decide to hire pilots with, I'm guessing, is up to what the traveling public deems less dangerous.

Shrug. With any luck, I won't be taking a checkride for a CFI rating or dropping an application off at a regional for the rest of my life. With that said, I don't think the FSDO playing hardball on the CFI is a bad thing at all. I think airlines adopting a "quick fix" non-solution rather than meaningful screening of applicants is pretty dumb, though. But I digress...

Anomalies are out there...

I have no doubt that Eagle will drop it's mins/requirements. How do I know this? Simple supply and demand. They need a crap-ton of pilots this up coming year alone. The supply isn't out there, as noted with other carriers accepting candidates that Eagle doesn't ie checkride failures etc...

I respect you Boris, I really do. I value all you have to offer to this community. But the "Wow, disregard" part? Really? it was a fouled spark plug. I made a comment about it. Big whoop. I cleared it, the mag check was fine after that, and we went flying. I personally don't understand how the next logical job for a low time pilot is CFI, but that's the way it is. I don't make the rules. I just play by them.

This is what's confusing me. The supply isn't there. Where is it?! There's plenty of pilots looking for jobs.. Are they just not looking at returning or resigning their seniority? There are definitely more pilots in the market this time around than in 2007-08. Yet the mins aren't that high, and some have already lowered the mins. What gives?

Wot? I screwed up and quoted myself rather than editing my previous post! Hence the "disregard". Easy there, Trigger! ;)

EDIT: See, I can edit. If I've never said so, your avatar is awesome, even if you're sometimes Totally Wrong, just like the rest of us.

My bad. I waz confuzed. As happens on the interwebz. Although I must call you out. And this is one of the times you're completely wrong. I am NEVER sometimes Totally Wrong! EVER! I am always wrong. I learned that a while ago. "You have your opinion, mine is right" is often what people tell me. I try and refrain from being right. The satisfaction of being right just isn't as rewarding as it used to be.
