Future of American Eagle

Just wanted to see what a everybody thought about the future of American Eagle Airlines. I know quite a few of you have talked about the recent (I believe) hiring of pilots. However, what does this mean for AE? It seems to me that they may be growing again even though AA has said on numerous occasions that they are looking to get rid or spin off the AE brand. So, from the masses what do you think?

No company in their right mind would purchase A.E. with their high operating costs in this economy.

What are Eagle's operating cost?
Because talking to management they seem to have no clue what the real cost are.

The union feels we will not be owned by AMR by this time next year. Now what does that mean? No clue, someone could buy us or they could spin us off like CAL did with XJT or they could pull a Comair us.

But Gonzo, how many years has your union been saying that for and still AMR remains daddy?

I haven't heard this. You have any sources?

Mr. King, Manager of Pilot Recruitment, says they want to hire A LOT of pilots in 2011 and are ramping up recruitment efforts.

Word from the inside (though I'm sorry I can't give who as a source) the company is looking to hire about 400 (or more) pilots over the next 2+ years and only has 600 resumes on file. Looks like they're minimums may be dropping... good news for those who are gunning for AE. Pre 2008 they're mins had dropped to pretty much Commercial mins...

As for operating costs I thought they would keep the Saabs and get rid of the ATR due to the difference is operating costs... perhaps this is because the ATR holding more seats?

Instead of lowering mins, why not try raising the pay. Then maybe they would have a better pool to pick from.

The pool is, most likely, much better than it was back in 2008, and they seemed to get most folks through training back then.

History has shown as that first the company lowers the mins as much as possible to attract more pilots and eats the increased insurance premiums from hiring low time pilots. If the trend continues and the attrition rate is bad enough that flights are cancelled and revenue is lost then companies often will get desperate enough and offer retention bonuses for signing a contract. I know XJ and UPS have done this, in fact at one point UPS was giving a 60K signing bonus for pilots that resigned for five more years... I'm sure others have done this that I'm not aware of also...

Then maybe after all this a companywide pay bump?

Which would likely have to be ratified in a Letter of Agreement by the pilot Union at a given recruiter.

I don't know know why Eagle would *have* lower mins to fill classes- it's not like they don't have *piles* of applications.

Word is, they're having a few huge newhire classes in January. More to follow.

I thought AE had on par pay w/ other companies, better for jets than t-props. Also, the QOL was reportedly better than at many other regionals. Is that no longer the case?

I'm curious about what Mr. King thinks about reconsidering those applicants who have applied but have been dismissed for exceeding the maximum failed checkride threshold. At some point weightings for the experience gained by turning a "pink" slip into an Airman Certificate must surely exceed low times with no "pinks".
