One man's trash is one man's slightly more enticing trash.
Nobody gets into this business wanting to retire as an FO.
I get that til retirement it’s a lot of money, but at what point does the money of taking first upgrade at a major and having an awful schedule outweigh cherry picking your schedule and still making more money than most people? Seems like an easy trade off for me.Not everyone cares about being a Captain. 5.5 years an FO now after having done the CA thing at the regionals for 9 years. There's still zero incentive or motivation for me to do it again other than it pays a little more money, and that's not enough incentive.

You live in one of the best locations in the US to flight instruct....
I remember those days except all the conversations were "when you getting out" like we were some type of prisoners getting out to enjoy our lives. Can only imagine how dark those nights are right now lolit’s fun listening to them complain on CTAF at 1am about how they are stuck where they are and hate it. Mostly the Mesquite guys, but occasionally Oxford chiming in....

Depends on where you are in your career...
What I don't have sympathy is for regional FO'S wanting to cherry pick and get a good QOL making ok money cry and complain about junior captains or captains who are younger than them and how they get calls to move on and they don't. That is something I will not entertain

That analogy is actually pretty spot on still. Now that they’ve been furloughing CFIs, a lot of the instructors are like the unhinged kook imate that is sitting on death row waiting anxiously/excitedly to get execu...I mean furloughed hahaha.I remember those days except all the conversations were "when you getting out" like we were some type of prisoners getting out to enjoy our lives. It should literally take you 5 days unless you're on a dumb 15 hour 141 syllabus.
Most definitely, regional is another thing. Bare you teeth and take it, and hopefully be lucky enough to get out.Depends on where you are in your career...

@tcco94 no one is hiring instructors here. Unless you have gangbusters of dual given.
Get your CFI. Of course no one is hiring today. To be frank and honest trying to find a flying job today especially with a wet commercial won't get you anywhere. Focus on the CFI rating first, it's going to be your most difficult rating too. But your most rewarding@tcco94 no one is hiring instructors here. Unless you have gangbusters of dual given.
@Flyinthrew all the schools that I've contacted are part 61 and do the 5 day program.

5 days? There is a guy around here who you fly with twice on day one. Then day two you fly with him in morning and checkride in afternoon. In and out in two days

Nothing was better than being a King Air Captain back in the day. I’d upgrade at the first chance I could. Not that I’ll have a chance for a long time. Kind of funny we are talking about upgrades now.
I can’t even imagine when that will happen
