Fun times at Skywest

"Low-Speed Awareness Cue (Green Line) The green line is a low-speed awareness cue, which is 25% above shaker speed. It is continuously calculated, and is based on current aircraft configuration (i.e., flaps, gear) and flight conditions (i.e., bank angle, gforce). It is a reference only."

I couldn't find anything in the SOP that prohibits you from going below, it's just a reference line.
nerd.

During the approach you're at the green line the whole time.... And then during the flare yeah you go below it. But even so the stall speed is below 100 knots so you should certainly be touching down....

There is a note somewhere, in one of the tech manuals that says the green line is not accurate for airpseeds below 155 (I think... I'm digging really far back).

The only time I every flew CLT-DSM was in the 700 with a new FO. We went up to 41,000 as we were super light and it was cold out and he'd never been. We talked about the importance of airspeed trends up there and, after about 5 minutes had to come back down due to speed decay. Anyhow, for what ever reason, something about going up there messed up the low speed cue and it sat at 210 knots the whole way down to the runway and it felt REALLY strange flying below it during the approach.

Funny how, these days, getting above 25,000 feels strange to me.

They told us its only accurate in the landing configuration with flaps at 45, so maybe only accurate below 155?

Are trying to figure out how you low energy stall a 200/700/900???

Jest remember uncle Jerry /Chip now says smart CI is safe!

Vshaker is presumably some amount over Vs, so the green line is really about 1.3Vs, yes?

<- ignorant Embraer pilot.

It is safe as long as:
1. You act as a pilot in command. If it tells you something that is dumb, don't do it.
2. You understand that if it gives you a lower speed, without auto throttles you kind of need to pay attention. If you open up the USA Today and ignore your PFD you could find yourself on the lower end of the power curve very quickly.

We have a winner.

what I don't understand is: ok we imposed these stupid limitations 250/.70 and 250/.74.

Why not put the limit in the management side of the house that sends us the SmartCI and let us continue to use the econ page.....

But no, they'd rather waste ACARS paper by giving us stupid printouts every flight about when we should be on the ground rather than what speed to fly.......

Funny. We use the exact same CI info on the same airframes but never had the issues you did.
Rule number 1. Fly the %#^**%%* airplane.
Rule number 2. Refer to rule number 1.

I agree.

and I'm not a skywest cheerleader by any means, but one thing skw did was to self report all these issues. no one else is providing data to the FAA that isn't required. we're stupid for doing it and we deserve what we got.

Also, I'm not part of this RJ group that stalled planes. I'm a Tprop driver, they just made me fly this stupid hot tub device.

Sorry. Not true. We have FOQUA.
Don't get me wrong, there are things we are told that come out of FOQUA that give me the willies.

all these issues didn't show up because of FOQA. everyone has FOQA. this is self reporting for "safety".

lots of these slow speed events were never stalls. if we ever go below 250 for more than 10 or 15 seconds now (in cruise or high alt climb) you get an acars message warning you you're slow.

and FOQA isn't automatically all sent to the FAA. SKW chooses to do that for some reason...... as if we're gonna gain something from oversharing with the government. it baffles me.

almost as dumb as sharing all CVR data with the FAA. why in the heck would you do that if it isn't mandatory.

FAA is part of FOQUA.

Going below 250 is not in and of itself dangerous in a CRJ. As a matter of fact there are MELs that will restrict you to speeds below 250 such as APU door position not known.

Well sure. And holding speeds, and vmd, etc etc. It's a stupid limitation our POI slapped us with overnight along with fl280. Took us over a month to get back up to fl350. And even now none of our CRJs not 200 700 or 900 can go above 350. Are you kidding? A 700 can go above that any day, full of fuel pax and isa+15. It's asinine.

Knee Jerk reaction.
