Fun times at Skywest

It is my very limited understanding that yes, most of the events were in the 700. The company instituted an ACARS speed warning in that if you were flying slower than what the ECON page said you would get a message. However, that apparently wasn't good enough for the FAA (they only had that ACARS message in play for a couple of days). The FAA issued an emergency operations reg, or something, limiting the 200 to FL280 and the 700/900 to FL350 and minimum speeds of .70/250 and .74/250 respectively. Because we all now that flying at a lower altitude will make pilots pay more attention...

In recurrent they say that the average time for a slow speed event is 11 minutes after level off in cruise.

The company is obviously aware of the issues with these altitudes and is apparently appealing the decision. I don't know why...they say the 200 is the new Brasilia...and now it really is!

I believe that the lions share of slow speed evens were in the 700, which as we all know goes very senior...
BTW, what is an "iPod backpack"?

I believe he wrote, "iPod/backpack generation".

1. A slash is often used to indicate "or":
  • Dear Sir/Madam (Sir or Madam)
  • Please press your browser's Refresh/Reload button. (Refresh or Reload)
  • The speech will be given by President/Senator Clinton. (President Clinton or Senator Clinton)
  • Mary will eat cake and/or fruit. (Mary will eat cake, or Mary will eat fruit, or Mary will eat cake and fruit.)

"Someone" who used to be a pinch-a-nickel pilot and I once discussed how he would climb in pitch mode, which actually makes more sense to me.

Of course, I am a dumb rehabilitated prop pilot who used to ONLY really have pitch mode at his disposal.

I always used pitch mode in the CRJ in climbs and descents from altitude and speed mode for idle descents. Worked like a charm.

You keep your new airplane in FLCH when you are step climbing?

I wrote iPod/backpack generation, the slash is in there. This is the generation that has iPod ear buds at all times, zoning out everything around them and really not caring about societal norms. Also the guys who wear backpacks like they are still in high school. They're grown ups now but refuse to accept that. The worst is the combination of these two, slinging a backpack and iPod ear buds while walking up to the gate podium in full view of all passengers.

No, the worst is not taking out your ear buds when asking to ride in the jumpseat.

My backpack is rad.
I have a very, very nice North Face Overhaul 40 daypack that I wish I could carry in uniform, that I carry my laptop, etc., in when going to various places off-duty. (My shoulders and back feel a lot better carrying that vice my messenger bag, too.)

I dont disagree with you. Yet I cant be mad or anal about seeing that.

Maybe if they were paid like professionals they'll adhere to standard behavioral norms.

FYI... large nunber of regional pilots have just a high school diploma, and make less than Joe Burger Flipper at IN 'N OUT.
