Friends in the backseat

I've recently started training for my PPL down at the local airport, and already I have a friend who is bugging me to take him up for a ride while the instructor and I do the training up front.

Before I go back to the aiport to ask, I was wondering if any of you had any input as to what your school's policy is on the matter.

Thanks,
Adam

Well you'd have to clear it with your CFI first, doubt it would be a problem since you're paying for it...

Unless you're flying a 152

as a CFI, I had NO problem with it, in fact I encouraged it. My policy was for my students to tell me a day in advance, so I could plan around things like stalls, etc...

Yeah, as long as it wasn't a flight to do maneuvers or anything I didn't really care. Short cross countries are usually good for that kind of thing.

I had one guy who's son rode along on almost every lesson.

I remember my first student. She was a lady in her 40s. She asked if she could bring someone along on her second flight - it was her daughter. Yep, young, single and pretty and mom was trying to set us up

Well, for those of you CFI's that said it wouldn't be a problem to take a passenger with ya on a training flight, feel lucky that the aircraft owner even allows it. At the FBO where I fly, the owner, who owns 3 Pipers, wont allow anyone to fly along. Hell, most days it seems he don't even want his CFI's students in his precious planes. I would love to take family members and friends along, one at a time of course, on a few flights but the boss says no. In fact, even AFTER I receive my PPL, he wants a 2 hour checkout before he will allow anyone to rent his planes and carry 2 passengers. Just ridiculous.

Is it his rules or the insurance companies? If it's his personal rules, maybe he's in the wrong business. To me taking up friends is a PERFECT way to get them addicted. This then generates more revenue for the FBO/Flight school. If it's insurance reasons, it may be out of his hands.

This is funny: my father-in-law, after riding behind me several times 12 years ago while I took lessons, will still brag about me, and his falling asleep while I did the PP manuevers with instructor in front.

Another point: be sure the pax know where the sick sacks are, where the air vents are, and as CFI keep a watch over your back, or wear a raincoat!

Most younger kids simply fall asleep. The teens are engaged for maybe a half hour, and then revert to their gameboys or whatever. The adults may ask too many questions, or never get in at all.

These are HIS rules. I would LOVE to take a few people up with me and they would love to go as well, but, "NO WAY" says the boss. In fact, I had taken my daughter along with me to the FBO to watch me fly one time, while I was doing the pre-flight she asked me if she could sit in the plane, I said sure, just don't touch anything. The boss came out and about had a heart attack. "No one in the plane except you and the instructor!" My daughter is 12 so it's not like she was 5 and would chew on the yoke or something.

Go fly somebody else's airplane, this guy is a dick!

If it is not an insurance policy (which I doubt on a PA28), I would take a dump on the front seat and take my instructor with me somewhere else!!
Well, maybe I am exagerating a bit, I wouldn't do it on the front seat...

Let me try one of those...

That seems really absurd. I'd take my business and my $$ somewhere else. This guy sounds like he deserves neither. Yeesh!! I've never flown anyplace where they were remotely uptight about who rode in the airplane.

Say Speed-
Crapping on the seat of an airplane is not a very professional way to solve a problem with an aircraft owner. you won't go far in this industry with that attitude. everyone knows, that your supposed to crap in a bag and put it UNDER the seat. that way they can't find it and you get the enjoyment of watching them try to figure out where the smell is coming from. come on now, if you want to be a professional pilot, start acting like one.

Love it!!!

Another way to accomplish the same ends would be to put it (the bag) under the wing and light it on fire, he'll run out and stomp on it. That would be an advanced maneuver as well
