Friends in the backseat

Here at UND some ground school teachers make you go on observation flights. I have no problem with people riding in the back, and neither have any of my instructors. Though there was this one guy who would not shut up during the flight. I missed a few radio calls because of him until he figured out that he needed to be quiet. Most of the time when I bring people with me I forget they are back there. One of my friends rode down to MSP in my first IFR cross country and he fell asleep on the way back.

One of my students brought up a pretty hot chick as an observer on 2 of his flights. Both times he really stunk at flying that day.

Say Speed-
Crapping on the seat of an airplane is not a very professional way to solve a problem with an aircraft owner. you won't go far in this industry with that attitude. everyone knows, that your supposed to crap in a bag and put it UNDER the seat. that way they can't find it and you get the enjoyment of watching them try to figure out where the smell is coming from. come on now, if you want to be a professional pilot, start acting like one.

Love it!!!

Another way to accomplish the same ends would be to put it (the bag) under the wing and light it on fire, he'll run out and stomp on it. That would be an advanced maneuver as well

I had this problem once. I shut his intercom off on the panel. Took him ten minutes to figure out he was talking to himself.

I'm currently doing my Private training, and twice now I've had a passenger in the back seat of the C172 (both were friends of my CFI). The first time was my night XC, and it was a very smooth ride (FXE - RSW - FXE). However, the second time was doing mostly short/soft field takeoffs and landings. I felt bad for the guy in the back, as it was his first time in a small plane, and I'm sure he wasn't expecting that sudden pitch up for the soft field takeoff.

The owner of the small school (only 2 172's) has no problem with passengers in the back.

Thanks for all your replies--

I was actually flying the other day and my instructor said "This would be a great day for you to bring a couple friends with you". So I don't think the whole friend in the backseat thing is going to be a problem.

I was thinking I might bring up a girl I'm friends with for her birthday present. I figure she will enjoy it, she gets to see my extreme amout of skill at the flight controls

, and I get my lesson in with no additional cost. It's almost like buying your wife a powerdrill you want for her birthday present. You get to kill two birds with one stone so to speak.
