Print out the PTS for the Commercial certificate and give it to him. If he's supposedly been flying "commercially" for any period of time, he's probably met most if not all the requirements of the Commercial certificate.

Wow, really?

So today a person with a PPL that is and has been flying possibly questionable commercial activities is as dangerous as a drunk driver... The same pilot takes the Commercial checkride tomorrow morning and gets a new plastic card that replaces the word "Private" with "Commercial". He's no longer as dangerous as a drunk driver... Is that correct?

They will get him when they look at the remarks for the flight. "Illegal Commercial Ops". :)

Only if the logbook is filled in with a pen with other than blue or black ink.

Probably not as damning though as the remark "Cancelled IFR at the gate" or "Retracted flaps in the flare"

The FAA has rules in place for a reason. Is it a danger to have a PPL doing commercial ops? Depends...Many PPL's have more hrs and experience than people with commercial certs. Just a question though, If it was a guy with a sport pilot cert. doing this would it change anyones mind about reporting him?

Looks like Im going to turn you in Matt. We've had talk after talk about gojets and you still think you can fly for them with a ppl!

What if I had the Following Logbook entry:

5/31/04 - BE1900, N12345, FLL - TPA, .8 TT, .8 Multi Engine, .8 SIC
Remarks: First time I got to fly a turboprop, and they let me pay for this experience!!!

His biggest risk is bending the airplane and then having the insurance company say they are not going to pay.

I know a guy that was doing contract flying with a ppl. When I found out I told the company that he was flying for, a friend of mine ran the flight department. That stopped his contract flying until he got his commercial ticket. The guy came back and thanked me several months later for forcing him to get his commercial ticket.

Again, you're going to go to the FAA to rat out your friend?

That's where your loyalty is? To go out of your way to turn in a buddy?

What he's doing is against the CFR, to be certain...but it floors me that you would sell out someone you consider your friend for such a victimless crime.

Well, some could consider the CML holder who is not employed right now a victim. Also, without having the details on what this pilot is doing, it's hard to say how serious this guys infraction is.

Is he really a friend or an acquaintance? Either way, remember that retaliation can be a bitch(reference the link below). Even though you may be on the right side of the law, others can still make life difficult. It's just something you have to weigh when you snitch.

I think as a friend, all you can do is educate them about their wrong and then choose whether or not you want to continue associate with them based on the integrity of their decision.

Two choices:

A.) Turn him in now before he kills someone.

B.) Say you knew that was going to happen after 6 people get killed.

Last year we were watching a six being recovered by a huey. The six lost it on a IMC departure and spun in. A 100% legal flight.

The huey would drop a 50' sling into the tree line and come up with parts of the plane. Then fly the length of runway with a wing, then the motor, the tail area, another wing. It got real sobering when the huey flew the lenigh of the runway with 2 body bags swinging on a sling.

Unfortunately out of the good stuff, but the new Maker's 46 is very tasty.

Just prepping for this weekend, I "have" to work Saturday-Wednesday, and by "have to work" I mean that I have to fly to Marathon in the Keys and sit/drink beer :(
