For those tracking Atlas

What are the schedules like at Atlas? QOL?
My dad is a Capt at Atlas, he's been with the company since 1994 or so. He is gone for about 14-18 days per month depending. His schedule always changes sometimes daily, and that is what he hates about the company. For him not having a firm schedule reduces his QOL. I will tell you since he has started flying for Atlas he has missed birthdays, holidays, and lots of family events. He loves flying the 747 but the being away from home is getting old for him. He would tell you his QOL sucks, but he is old and grumpy.

QoL is an interesting thing. You're gone for long stretches (tough part), but you can rig up lots of time off too. It really depends on how you want to divvy up your time off. If a 4 day is like an eternity + too much time, this ISN'T the job for you.

Our new CBA is rolling into play, so now you have a "footprint" much like at most carriers. The days in your line are the only days you owe the company, and your days off are your days off. The maximum work footprint schedule is 17 days, however, under certain conditions you can be extended 3 days. Like sandlapper said, they can change your schedule on the road. However, it will take some time to figure out how all of the work rules come together.

Some guys will say you don't need any TPIC, just move on.

Others will say 1,000.

Some, 2,000.

I say move on to what you can when you can. If things hit the fan and you can't get a job with 747 international time, kids flying RJ's for 2,000 hours in the left seat probably won't be getting jobs either.

But that's just my take on things.

I want my next move to be my last. So any desicion i make will be for life.

Good luck with that one. I would like my next move to be my last, but will fully expect to be furloughed during my first 5 years at said company.
