Well I see you most every night. I think that was the flight that responded with "you gotta be kidding me" when denied a request for higher, but it was an arinc message, not CPDLC so it might have been a different flight. I wasn't working that night, but someone thought it was funny and posted it on the union board.

Ah! Give me a date and I can take a looksee who it was!

First BCN trip in a long time for me.

Are you with Moncton or Gander?

Ahh! Haven't been on with NY Oceanic since my wonderful 5-day "dream vacation" to flood-ravaged Dakar back in August!

Can a mod change the thread title to "For greg1016"? :D

It's all good man, I really like it when people in the airspace that I use make contact. You never know when you're going to get that short cut thru the airspace that helps you reach your commuter flight! :)

I like it when I have good rides until a Delta pilot checks in :-)

In my limited experience, I have found that it is usually the domestic carriers that give me the least amount of grief.

We like it before we get reports of delta chop too.

Ahh that stinks, other night there was a very late flow of westbound traffic on the JEBBY track, sounded like it might have been a trainee. She kept asking for CARAC estimates, kind of unusual. This was one of your first days with CPDLC last week.

Not sure why, some people apply standards a little differently I guess. But on that track we need to prove 10 minutes at the inside fix (CARAC) so if you have faster behind we can approve same level. There's easy ways to compute a CARAC time, and we even have some workarounds to prove separation without having to do the work, so I don't really understand that. Either it's good or it's not.

Is someone asking for CARAC estimates on every airplane?

Basically what was happening was I would call up with a new estimate, at JEBBY (JEBBY..CARAC) and the controller would ask me for CARAC times on estimates I already passed at JEBBY. At this point there was already a fairly heavy east-bound flow, but I don't recall the requested CARAC estimates to be at the same altitude. So I assumed it was for traffic I didn't see. I was also recently turned down for two aircraft at the same altitude, one JEBBY..CARAC and the other NOVOK..CARAC. They had like 12 minutes at CARAC if I remember, so based on what you are saying I guess that makes sense.

In our off-shore radar sectors at New York, we use anticipated radar separation. Meaning if we are reasonably sure that when the aircraft are radar identified that they will have 5 miles, then the approval is made. My colleagues (and eventually me if I ever get trained), will take aircraft over KAYYT and SLATN converging at the same altitude all day. For other centers, my oceanic computer system would show a conflict for me if the aircraft get closer than 50 miles within 25 miles inside your boundary (PS: For an RNP4 or 10 aircraft, but you guys don't use that either, for MNPS it would be 60/30), and if that is the case I'll provide the separation. I guess occasionally what is good enough for me is not good enough for you, it just doesn't happen often.
