Flying Upside Down

I just flew my first competition in the sportsman category. Finished 8th out of 13 pilots in that division (ahead of an Extra, two decathlons, and two GameBirds), not bad for a 118hp citabria. I was happy with my scores and met my goal of three clean runs through the more challenging sequences. Had a lot of fun and met some really great pilots.

I also got to take home hardware for my flying last year.

3:32:00 is my final run. Flew my best run on the final flight and was happy with my scores.

Awesome, nice work! I'm not sure if this is in any way useful to your corner of the aviation world, but I remember both during flight school, as well as later during the TOPGUN course, I always had to remind myself to not think about or focus on what other people were doing......the grades of other classmates and how I might compare, etc ("grades" in the latter being pretty much nonexistent, but the threat of being kicked out was always existent until the bitter end). Seems a lot like this environment, though perhaps a lot less outwardly "competitive" in comparison to what you're doing. Point being, I focused on myself.......just improving myself and my flying every flight. Just like you're doing, working for a better personal best. I dig it, sounds fun!

Yeah, I was competing against myself at that stage. Going into Nationals, I was hopelessly outclassed in airplane but I was still happy with 3 clean runs trough the sportsman sequence.

Now that I have the Pitts I should be more competitive. I'll never have the talent and skill to challenge the guys who are really good at this kind of flying but I keep improving.

This is so cool Scott! Are you performing for the public anywhere in the states this summer? Do you travel around for the air shows and all?
