oMgzZZ! I would overheat so quick. I was darker than my African roomate in AZ! AH!

Yes...it sux....suxxxx. And if you unfortanately have an engine out in a single engine aircraft...your glide speed is the same but you TRUE AIRSPEED is increased...leading to more momentum and longer landing distance on a field that is most likely unimproved.

HA...yes it is dry heat....dry like when you preheat an oven and then you open it up to put what you are going to cook in and you get a blast of heat in your face...exactly like that...or even better, turn on a blowdryer and point it at your face, that is what the wind feels like..

The average Temp in July and August is around 126F so i guess I will deal with that when it comes.

If i had a small trainer out here i would give you all a performance report but since i am not around you all can rent one and take a spin to death valley.

Is there a difference in performance in extreme temps?

I think he was refering to the fact that you don't need to worry about carb icing in a fuel injected engine.

It is not a mythical beast...they do live out here and are everywhere. HOWEVER (note, the caps) I have yet to see one like the internet portrays, i.e 3 feet long with fangs made of aluminum alloy and death rays for eyes. The ones that i see alot of are slightly larger than a good sized tarantula and have pretty big fangs. The huge ones i am not sure if they are that big because of photo shop or possibly if left alone in an area with plenty of food, i guess anything is possible.

Oh yeah I knew that. I was more curious if they have more hp then the carb engines. Do the FI engines burn less fuel?

Yeah man...that density altiude on days like this will get ya! I recently experienced it on a 100+ day last week out at Van Nuys. We were lucky to climb out at 200FPM in a PA28-161 after a ground roll that took forEVER. Not only that, the heat makes me nauseous for some reason. Of course so does mayonaise. :insane:

Theres Density Alt on the coast?

VNY is in the Valley so it's inland. Field elevation is 802 feet. The other day it was about 105°F with a dew point of around 65°F. That calculated to the plane performing as if it were at an elevation of around 4200MSL

Oh that's nothing, I remember doing touch and go's at Durango, CO with a density altitude of over 10,000!

And you forgot to mention, that to that you have to add full body armor, boots, gear, etc. :insane: :)

I tried making a solo cross country last week when the OAT was 44 C. I just couldnt get the damn engine to stop running rough, i knew it was cause of the heat but I havent flown the cirrius enough to know that for sure. Felt like an idiot taxing back from the run up area right past my instructor. DOH!

My OAT guage in the Chinook would routinely read 55 degrees Celsius over there.

Oh, and the OAT guage maxed out at 55, so who knows what it really was.
