Flying entire life without AFD

Thanks, but it looks like I'm going to have to break down and buy one now that I'm seeing that everyone is basically telling me to "nut up and buy one." And yes i am Adler's roommate. However the club I am a part of keeps current AFD's in their aircraft so i have never had to buy one but i will for preflight planning. And no I'm not a future gas station attendant.

Back to the topic. I tell my students that if they get cought with their pants down during a ramp check (they didn't have some sort of AFD with them, be it the gov. issued or otherwise) they are inviting trouble. But for the purposes of flight planning, it does not matter how they get there, it just matters that they do. But for the situation that they must divert, how are you going to know the TPA or some non-standard stuff if you don't have an AFD in the cockpit. A perfect example would be flying the pattern at CMA. The ILS for OXR comes right over the top, and due to that, the pattern is lower to help aid in seperation. Fly it at 1000' AGL and your inviting a lack of seperation.

Well, if that's the case, then you have access to them when you need them. I'd save the money and buy your roommate a beer.
