flight express??

Didn't read about the latest thing. Of the crashes I can remember from when I was doing research on the company, there was one not long before I was hired that involved a guy taking off in to "medium-IFR", apparently (apparently, who knows) losing control, and crashing. A couple of engine failures over maybe 5 years. And a couple of dudes running out of gas because they were dumb.

My experience with maintenance was good. The guys at CPS, at least, know the 210 very, very well. They're Characters, but they know how to fix 520s, 550s, and the 210 airframe like they were born to it because they've been doing it for God knows how long. Avionics were sometimes a little dicier, but as far as the airframe and powerplant goes, I would fly in any weather (and did) with those guys wrenching on the plane.

I only had two "uhoh" moment working there (as far as the equipment goes), and those were totally unforseeable. This is in what, about 2500 hours.

That particular segment of the industry is extremely dangerous, at least relatively speaking. Don't kid yourself about that. But if you're going to do it, I think FLX is one of the "safer" places to do it. And if that's not enough, you still get your own personalized wheelbarrow in which to carry your balls. The last part was a lie. Sadly.

I think this is a good write up for the company. The MX guys know what they are doing. If you have something broken all you have to do is write it up and you can bet it will be fixed within a day or two.

It is single engine in some pretty hard weather to fly in but I certainly had a blast doing it. The 210 is a great airplane and its amazing the trust you can put into it even with 20,000 some odd hours on the airframe. Yea I scared myself just a few times but overall I am so very glad that I spent some time there.

A friend of mine who has something like 9k hours working for them sent in a resume and talked to the DO and was told to "keep in touch". I wouldn't hold your breath.

And yes, FLXers, the infamous Jayrooom may be headed back your way, with any luck. I hope he is, and you should too, but guard your livers and don't buy in to his European propoganda about how great U2 is.

I will inform AC on Sunday when I have a checkride. I am totally prepared right now. I just ask two things. Is he still sailing around the Gulf? Is he current?

I think he's done with sailing right now, and I don't think he's current. But jeez, he has twice my total time just flying for FLX.

I'll also add that I have made the most money while I was there. Since I left FLX I have not cleared a check higher than the ones they gave me.

Tell me about it. Sometimes I feel dirty making so much for doing so little, and those free cookies and long naps are making me fat.:D

The Flight Express website says that you guys are hiring. Any idea what bases need people right now?

That fluctuates so often, there is NO WAY to know. When I went through training, they gave us a "big picture" heads up about a week before we bid for the base we wanted, and that changed every day including a change right before we bid. As an example, the run I have did not exist when I was hired and they were working out the details such as where it would be based even after we had bid.

People are constantly moving to other things even in this hiring environment, runs go away, runs are created, and this just stay in flux. When they say be ready to go to any base when you finish training, it's true. Except the CA bases. The guys who have those like them apparently.

Also, disregard everything on the website about upgrade into the Baron. That has practically stopped.

Yeah, I hear the Baron routes all went to Airnet. I'm not really in need of any multi time, just a job. I am an ex-121 guys and I have a few thousand hours of multi-time. Didn't really care for the airline lifestyle. Any idea of when their next class is? How senior do the Tampa, Atlanta, Nashville and St. Louis bases go?

Nashville is the most senior base. You just wont hold it for years. TPA and CPS are your best bets. You can probably get either one right out of training or within a month or two.

Any idea what the current workload is in Tampa? I read somewhere that there wasn't really enough business there to make over the min pay. Has that changed? I understand that things change pretty much daily. Is there anywhere that I can look up the routes out of those two domiciles?

Seniority is a funny thing at FLX. Because everyone pretty much lives in base, it's kind of hard to move, so bases don't tend to be senior as much as runs do. With that said, if you go by the seniority numbers of the people at particular bases, Nashville is probably most senior. Forget ATL. One run, guy is happy there, and it's rumored to be going away anyway.

One of the runs in Tampa they have trouble keeping people on. It's often open. CPS is also often in need of one more.

Normally CPS would be look for pilots, but right now CPS is not. Your best bet is TPA. All the Baron runs did not go to Airnet, most just went away.

I think you are forgetting B. Ditto at BHM because he is about as Senior as you can get. He has been there a 100 years it seems.

True he's a legend, but as a base goes, Nashville has the most out of the senior pilots. Out of the top 10, at least three of them are in Nashville.

Edit
And all are in the top 15. Not for long, but right now they are.

Well, it sounds like you all are happy with your jobs, so I am glad to hear it. Just got an invite to the August class! Looking forward to it!
